Sunpass Mini on Rear Glass?

the SunPass mini says it must be attached to glass for it to read (acts as antenna).

i do not want it on the front glass as its hard enough to see stuff as is, do you guys think it would work attached to the rear window? (is it glass?)

my original idea was to put it behind the front hardtop panel but no glass there, i might just toss it up there anyways and see if it starts debiting my account.

If you find a place that works on the car other than the windshield could you please post it. Have been wondering where to put one where it will work and be out of sight. Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the glass has any technical effect on reception, I think they just say that to encourage people to put it on the glass where it has a clear line of sight. Many people have reported good results with putting it under one of the front access panels. IL's system only uses the transponder to verify the electronic license plate read, so I rarely have ours in any of our cars without any trouble.

The sunpass didn't function for me under the access panels. Just tape it onto the surface you wish to use it on, and give it a try.

Mine ended up on my windshield.

The only time you really need the transponder is if you get stuck in a lane that has a functioning drop bar in stopping you.

Otherwise, at least here in Florida anyway, they do a plate match that links to your existing account.

That causes a proper debit to your account.

i was under the same impression that glass is not a conductor whatsoever.. again i think its line of sight (but the big boxes can be anywhere).. our system is said to check license plate numbers and run against what tag's have sunpass systems setup... again if my pass works in the front panel i guess we will know 1 of two things

A: it reads thru plastic and not on glass
B: they just check the plate and bill the account.

online it does say if you do not have the correct plate input that they are not responsible for any mis-charges.

I mounted my transponder under the front access panel and it worked fine.
I dont know about the new ones that are decals that get taped to your window.
When I entered in my license plate numbers on the sunpass site for all of the cars that I used it on, I messed up on one of them. I got a charge for a going through a tollbooth without paying. I thought that they would have looked at the picture and matched it to the description of the car but they dont. I traced the license plate number that I entered incorectly and it belonged to someone that lived in Orlando that had a car with that was a totally different make, model and color than what I had listed. They said I could fill out a dispute form, but it wasnt worth all the effort for a 75 cent toll. I corrected the license plate number to the correct one, and I havent had any trouble since.

A few months ago I was in NJ and my brother let me borrow his EZpass. It didnt register at one of the tolls, and they traced the license plate back to Florida and sent me a bill for the toll plus a $125 fine! My brother was able to call them and say that on his statement it registered the toll before and after the one that rejected, so they said just to send them the toll amount and they would not charge the fine.

Wish they would come up with a national EZ pass. It sucks having to wait in line to pay cash in MD. PA, and Delaware because I dont have one of the transponders for their states
