Using the Exige forum

Hi, based on requests, and because I think it makes sense.... I created an Exige forum.

The idea is that Exige specific discussions and questions should be posted here. If the question or discussion is related to an Elise or an Exige... such as questions about the engine, radio, how many monkeys can fit in the trunk, etc... please put those discussions in the proper forums. If the discussion is specifically about the Exige, or items only found on the Exige, then this is the right place.

I own a 06 with 3500 miles. My problem begins when the transmission gets warm during trach days. The shift from second into third becomes stiff and than increasenly difficult.. A double clutch up shift seems to solve the problem. Has any one experienced the same or similar problems.

hblotus, have you had the shifter cables adjusted?

Around 3,000 miles, shifting my '06 Exige started becoming reminiscent of my Porsche 914/6's gearbox (where the driver had to be clairvoyant to successfully make certain gear shifts). Qais, at So. Bay Lotus, adjusted the cables, and everything has been (mostly) fine. My car now has 8,500 miles.

At times downshifting into third (only when at the track) can be tricky. I think it might be due to engine movement upsetting the shift cables / linkage. I am considering installing ForcedFed's engine damper (www.forcedfed.com/elise/dampers) to see if it makes a difference. Other ET'ers report more crisp shifting after the installation.

Randy - I think I met you at Petit Le Mans, I had the yellow Exige parked in turn 9 (i think it was). Lost your card... glad I found you on LotusTalk. I've been in a couple of HPDEs since Petit Le Mans. Did ok, still not as fast as I should be in the turns, the car's strength. Did VIR, Shenandoah at Summit Point, and then the main track at Summit Point. Shenandoah convinced me that the Lotus understeer needed correcting, so I used the forum to get educated about understeer, ended up removing all the shims but 1 (the bracket for the ALB sensors stayed in). that gave me -.05 camber in front, I think I ended up with -1.5 or so in back. Made a big difference. Had a good weekend with NASA at the main track last weekend. Waiting to go out for my last session Sunday (solo) they sent us back because of an on-track incident. One of the instructors, Cale Kastorek, in a Honda S2000 running in Time Trials didnt get slowed at the end of the main straight going into the right hander, turn 1, veered off to the left and hit the wall apparently on the right side of his car. Someone who saw the car said that one of the brake rotars was completely gone, so must have disintegrated. He didnt survive it. I am guessing, just guessing that his neck might not have taken the whiplash, dont believe the car mashed in from right to left enough to hit him. Needless to say, I didnt go out for the last session. I am thinking that I want to get a roll cage and HANS, since I do want to keep tracking the car. Do you know who does roll cages? Also whats the status of the Lotus racing series?

regards, Fred (FredVa1).
