It really shocks me when I hear these stories as I've had nothing but extremely positive comments/questions about mine. In 3 years I've never had anything other than "holy sh!t man, that thing is (insert exploitative here). The only car I've ever had to get negative comments is my RS4 - and in fairness I do sorta drive it like an a$$hole...

had my first negative reaction yesterday on the way home from the autox. Some a$$hole in a CR-V on the freeway gets within 5 feet of my rear while going probably ~50 mph. When I look back in the mirror he is leaned forward in his seat and puts his hands in the air like they are on the steering wheel and starts moving them back and forth like he is swerving or something. I punch it and get away from him, my gf is behind in her 5.0 Mustang. She floors it to catch up to me and gets back behind me. Well as we are driving something hit the bottom of my car really loud, so ofcoarse I am dieing to find out if the car is ok and start changing lanes to get off the freeway. He is behind my gf and as she changes lanes he is right on her tail every time. I dont know what his problem was but I was just glad to get off the freeway and get the hell away from him. Oh and luckily there was no damage, the tub must have made it sound bad but turned out to be ok. I really want to start carrying marbles in the car to throw at a$$holes like that lol

^That's enigmatic behavior. I really wish people would just respect other people's ****. Especially their rides.

Parked places I should not have, but it's always been positive. We used to have LA dinner meets at Phillippe's. That's a terrible area. I have no explanation for somebody wanting to mess with a Elise/Exige

I daily drive my Exige and rarely get negative comments. I do often leave my ChaseCam on when I'm out and about, and I have a Viper 5500 SST with the microwave sensor with no audible alarm tones. The remote is 2-way (good for 2 miles range under perfect conditions) and tell me when people are close to it with an alert beep and icon, and when they are too close with an alarm beep and icon. The car side mades no audible or visual notifications so I can easily go visit my car. 99% of time time I find gawkers and people taking pictures of it and don't even approach. The other 1% I approach and pretend like it's not mine until someone tries to do something stupid. I drive my car everywhere, I park in Newark, Paterson, and Passaic, NJ and don't often get worried about the car.
For the people that talk about cars their dad has I tell them my mom has an 800whp Ultima GTR and she likes to race, go Google it. For people that have better, faster, more expensive, or nicer cars "at home" or somewhere else, I ask them if it is broken down or if they can't afford the insurance, or if they look young (like I do), if it's at home because their dad doesn't let them drive it. I know that really annoys people since it annoys the hell out of me when the cops always ask if this is my dad's car. |

had a guy give me a backwards compliment while getting gas. I don't think he meant to be an ass, but it just came out that way.
"whoa, thats a beautiful car. You're parents must be rich........ I love how it looks" I just smiled and left.

My 42 year old neighbour has recently sold his business and retired. As a treat to himself he purchased a Ferrari 458 Italia, a little while ago he took delivery of a Ford GT40... lucky man, oh and he's just added an Ariel Atom for track days...
He was complaining to me that the Ferrari gets abuse, rude words shouted at him/it and generally dislikes driving in built up areas because of it. The GT40 gets the complete opposite reaction, all positive, thumbs up, people wave, he gets let out in to traffic so people can oggle and he reckons people love it compared to the Ferrari... thats here in England, the Atom also gets the same! As for me, i've had two Elise' over the years and now have a 2010 Exige S 240, i've never had anything other than positive comments/responses! Last edited by Itgivesyouwings; 01-02-2013 at 09:06 AM. My only negative comments come from people getting passed. It happens a lot in the cities, but someone will be doing 55 in the left hand lane, so everyone is getting over to the middle lane to pass. I jump in that line, and as soon as I attempt to get around slow-poke, they either floor it to 90, or flash their brights at me with crude hand signals. It's only happened a handful of times, but my passenger and I can't figure out why. Non-aggressive driving, and maintaining traffic speeds. I guess they just think some "rich doosh ricer is trying to pass me"...

So I just stuck to carrying my middle finger around instead of the marbles. It was a permanent appendage so there was no additional weight and it still served to get my point across.

If you ever want to see me fly off the deep end and show you what road rage is all about, be in my passenger's seat while I pass someone in a PASSING zone and they try to speed up to prevent me from doing it or make some sort of gesture. Somethings just might be worth going to jail for. Can't we phucking neuter these types of people?

I approached a car one time (an old SUV) and just as I got behind the road went down to a single lane. I was driving behind (normal distance) and waiting for the two lanes again so I could pass. You could tell the guy had issues and when I went past he was holding up his middle finger. No reason really, we were the only two cars and I passed in the outside lane.
Also in the UK with my old S1, someone reached into the car and ripped up the road tax throwing it on the seat. Once again no reason I can see apart from Jealously. Had to go buy a new tax disk, annoying. Pretty sure were kids from the local council estate nearby. 99% of people love the car though, lost count of the people taking pics or asking about it. |

i've been driving mine a lot the past 2 weeks. Got nothing but thumbs ups and + comments. Must be y'all ( as in the drivers) instead of the cars.
