391 whp stock 2zz turbo

Hi guys,
Here is a 2zz-ge in a 2001 MR2 that I tuned to make 391whp.
The engine is unopened with stock valve train and block.
Turbo is a GTX2863r @12.5 psi with custom manifold and 3" exhaust.
Water to air IC and E85.
Lift is tuned to engage at 4300rpm.
Since the engine still has stock valve train and oil pump, I did not increase the redline past 8200rpm but it looks like power continues to climb beyond that point.

On the previous setup with GT2860rs, the car made 333whp @10.5 psi also on E85.

The car is not used for track, only for street. I don't think it will last long under prolonged abuse. However, it has survived for over 6 years boosted on the street with well over 40,000 miles. The 2zz is a stout engine as long as detonation is kept under control.

Thanks! This is just a hobby. I work with most of the local guys on tuning and building some of their Honda motors also.

I'm currently building 2zz-ge that will handle 500whp "reliably". Hoping to have it dialed in by the end of the year.

Hey sir,

Nice work, I've been following your progress on the other forums. What management are you using?

Sorry for late reply, my ECU is currently Apexi Power FC. It's a very basic standalone but it gets the job done. Here is my latest tune on a built 2zz that I finished a couple of months ago. I don't think I've seen any other 1.8L 2zz build that makes 270 ft-lb torque by 4000rpm

This wide powerband is matched with JUBU longer 3rd & 4th with a 3.9FD. I hit 100mph in 3rd and 125+mph in 4th.

This particular turbo is rated by Garrett for 425 bhp. Clearly.. I've taken this turbo past its efficiency but it still flowed enough for 400whp+ thanks to E85 keeping knock under control. The MR2 has a much inferior design in suspension compared to Lotus, so I only use this car for drag racing. The MR layout gives it a huge traction advantage over any other RWD on the straight.

This is an exhaust that I designed for my MR2 Spyder. I'm debating on giving it an extra 100 shot to hit the 500whp mark instead of running a bigger turbo.

Do you happen to do remote tuning?

Nice,

Cam crossover set @ 4200?

I've been a big fan of power FCs for a long time. Running 750cc injectors? Also, if you're running T2 frame turbos, I HIGHLY recommend the new EFR 7163. It can hold the 500whp you're looking for with 1 bar coming as soon as 2700 rpm with enough timing.

850cc Denso injectors, custom AEM320 lph E85 fuel pump, and yes crossover at 4250. I can set it to 3800rpm and have no torque dip but that's not very practical on the streets since I'll be sitting on Lift cruising around.

I love the EFR turbos, but I decided to go with the Tial v-band turbine housing. This makes servicing the turbo much easier. I can remove the turbo off the car in a matter of 10 minutes and not having to worry about nuts or bolts from coming loose either.

The 7163 DOES come with a Vband housing. I also agree on vbanding everything you can. Tight seal, no bolts.

This is racking my brain. You added 130% more power than the stock motor, but less than 1 bar of air is added. I don't see that from B18C5's which is what this motor would be closest too, and even stock K20's aren't quite at that level (and even so 1 bar on a 2 liter would be more air then a 1.8L).

To me, it seems like a low PSI. The power itself is not unbelievable.

I should have mentioned that it was actually 1 bar or about 15 psi. I came to find out my old boost gauge was unaccurate. I confirmed it after using the Dynojet's boost port and got another gauge for the car.
