You need to remove the oil drain and the VVT solenoid. Also, make sure that you're not forgetting the dipstick bolt... Here are some pics to help illustrate...

Best,

Phil

If something ain't worth doing right, it ain't worth doing...

Whoever thought working on a Lotus is hard, clearly hasn't tried it. Pick up a wrench and get some grease under your nails

Ahhh,

OK wasn't sure about order. I did remove dipstick mount. I'll remove the oil return and VVT. BTW, why is it necessary to remove the foil from the AC hardlines?

Finally got the intake out. I found it easy once the oil return pipe and VVT solenoid were removed. It slipped right off the studs. The removal and modification of the oil return pipe comes a bit later in the instructions.

Here is my oil retrun pipe after grinding off the mounting bracket. I tried to pry the bracket up to make the removal easier but the pipe is very maleable and I ended up denting it a bit. I'd recommend just grinding it off.

It makes it easier to seat the manifold...there are only a few mm's to spare on the bottom/rear edge.

I'm going to work on the oil return pipe, coolant bypasses, and take a look at the surge tank instructions before starting to put things back together. I also want to do a clutch and engine mounts. Now that the intake manifold is out all those tranny and mount bolts are really easy to get at. I'm starting to think I should do the clutch and mounts before starting to put things back into the engine bay.

I've chucked it all...

I'd do the clutch swap next *before* installing anything including the surge tank... The less stuff in the way, the better for that job... Obviously install the EFI before the blower as the instructions call out so that installation will be as easy as possible...

Lookin good,

Phil

I did the TB coolant bypass and replaced the U tube as well. The TB just involved removing the return hose to the block and connecting the feeder hose from the "T" line directly to the block. I removed the coolant reservoir hose to improve access.

I cut the bypass hose from the most curved portion of the U-tube. Connecting it was a snap. BTW, If you don't drain the coolant first, a shocking amnt will drain from the block.

I modified the oil return line as well. I used a pipe cutter but I'm sure a hack saw would be fine.

I plan to clean up the wiring as Phil suggests and then start on the Wideband 02, EFI, and fuel system upgrade. I'm also working on the clutch at the same time.

Have you Eyelise or anyone with a TVS, shielded the alternator from some of the supercharger heat.? Helping with an install.
Maybe slipping some heat wrap in there or installing a small fan to blow on the alternator as some of the previous kits had problems with the alternators crapping out. Ducting might work with the exception of wheel to wheel 10-15 mph heavy traffic. Anyone...ideas for TVS?

There hasn't been a TVS with alt heat issues...that I know of anyway. Compared to the MP62, it stays relatively cool.

Looking good... You can dump all that foam insulation "stuff" that was above and below the intake as well. You will not be needing it...

Best,

Phil

Instead of modifying the oil return pipe would it not have been easier to purchase an OEM one from Lotus for the S exige or new supercharged elise models?

Also on another note I love the idea of cleaning up all the coolant lines and getting rid of all the junk has anyone done a post on which lines you can get rid of, tidy up and shorten to eliminate all the excess. I know mainelotus has touched on the subject in his engine rebuild post but couldnt find anything else with the search function previously?

I did, as per mainelotus, just scroll up the page a bit. BTW I did the Wideband 02 install and working on the clutch pics to come.

Sorry for the lack of posts. I've been busy with the family and waited for a bunch of tools I ordered. HarborFreights screwed up a bunch of orders. Here is the system I cam up with to support the engine while I removed the motor mounts.
