ForcedFed Race 340 with EFI Standalone

Hi All,

I just wanted to give you an update on my '05 Elise which was upgraded by Forcedfed to the Race 340 kit in December. At that time I was still using the Unichip along with the Elise ECU for engine management. Here is a link to my first write-up:

http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32943

Well, last Thursday night Casey flew out to Albuquerque and started the install of the EFI standalone in my car on Friday. He was able to do the wiring harness and the wheel speed sensor since those were the only parts I got overnighted for Friday delivery. Then on Saturday we received the actual EFI ecu and plugged that in, added a few more parts and were off to the dyno. This was the first dyno session that I have ever witnessed, and it was quite interesting. We did 33 pulls in 4 hours allowing us to tune two maps for 91 octane and race gas. Then we went back to my garage and adjusted the idle for the A/C on and off. Then we hit the street with me driving and Casey making updates on his laptop based on my feedback; this was the drivability tuning of the car for the race gas map. Then, on Sunday morning we did the same thing for the 91 octane map while cruising through the beautiful Sandia Mountains. By noon I dropped Casey off at the airport and spent the rest of the week playing with my car!

All I can say is WOW!!! I thought the car was good with the Unichip (it was), but there is no comparison to the tune allowed by the EFI. The biggest difference is that the car now makes about 40 ft/lbs more torque than before for each map, and the torque comes on lower, and flatter, and smother. With the help of a wheel speed sensor allowing the boost to be adjusted based on the gear that I am in, the electronic boost control, and the cam changeover at 4500 rpm, this car has turned into a beast that is as smooth as glass.

Once again, Forcedfed has outdone themselves with their technology, expertise, and customer service. Casey is the most knowledgeable Lotus Elise/Exige tuner/mechanic that I know; he can do it all. And the quality of his work is second to none. John went out of his way to make sure the correct parts were ordered, that Casey was able to take Friday off to fly out here, and that the parts got to me on time. I also want to thank Chris from Dynamic Racing Solutions for getting the parts together and shipped to me in the last minute.

This car is now sooooooooooo good; I can't imagine it being better. It idles smooth, it drives smooth, and it makes tons of power in all the right places. Also, it is a very safe tune. You will see the dyno's below, and we could have gone with quite a bit more timing, but left it on the very safe side for reliability and drivability.

My hat goes off to Casey and John and the rest of the Forcedfed crew; I've said it before, and I will say it again. These guys are the real deal. In the rare case that something goes wrong, then they will take care of it immediately, and the quality of their parts and installs comes only second to their customer service.

Below you will see the dyno, a few pics of the EFI unit in the car, and the wheel speed sensor last. Keep in mind that the Lotus ECU still operates the gauges, but does not do any engine management. Also, I can't wait to get the software for the EFI so that I can play a little myself with some of the setting that Casey will allow me to change. It is amazing the control this stand-alone gives you and the overall improvement of drivability, even over a stock car.
