It is right near the fuel filler with a breather filter on it.

It's easy enough to keep the venting sollenoid hooked up to avoid that vapor loss. Here's a pic of how it looks:

Best,

Phil

I see you capped-off the inlet point at the TB.

I removed mine for a few months to determine the performance
benefits, but replaced it after realizing my mpg had decreased due to
a free-venting system. I left the fuel tank breather line open, so it vented to the atmosphere. I think this caused so much vapor loss that it decreased my mpg.

BUT, throttle response was marginally more crisp and the engine seemed more alive in every gear.

any thoughts....

Yeah I'm going to get a universal fuel tank breather (motorcycle type Probably) there real cheap.

Pistons, Sleeves, rods, bearings (all monkeywrench) and thats it, I'm cheap. I think my whole turbo setup even paying for the fab work was like $3500

So fast forward a little bit and I finally got around to rebuilding my motor. Went with Crower rods
Mahle pistons (9:1)
Monkeywrench valves
Circuit worx oil pump gears
and the rest is stock.

With the motor/trans out I went with John (MaineLotus) firewall shield mod.

Looks like you're having a blast...

Just curious, why do many of you turbo guys run your waste gate to air rather than the exhaust system? I always ran mine into the exhaust stream to keep things just a little civil... Isn't the waste gate going to be crazy loud? I'm not trying to be critical ,jsut wondering if it's a preference or a convenience?

Props to all the one-off work!

Later,

Phil

No it's a good point. For me I'm running high HP, high boost, so it's not too often that your really holding the throttle enough for 18+ psi that the wastegate will open at, and when you are things are going by really quick the sound never seems to bother me. If was running less boost (like say 10 psi or lower) I probably wouldn't dump it straight to atmosphere. And phil thanks again for all you help, there are not allot of people to turn to to ask questions so i do appreciate it.

Acetone will disolve the blue ThermoTec logos, if you're inclined to remove them.

Thanks for the tip. I love the mod this was a great idea on your part. I know from every performance car I've ever had once you start adding boost and modifying fuel/ spark the engine bay always gets substantially hotter than stock. Just one of those things.

So why did you opt to rebuild the motor? Can one get 350 whp out of the stock motor setup with proper tuning?

Yeah I think it's good for about 350 if you drive it conservatively. I'm gong for about 400whp and the compression is just to high for the amount of boost I plan on running, plus there are some know failures on things like valves, oil pump gears and pistons even in the low 300's.

So a few updates. I got the intake manifold back from the powder coater, it looks allot better in sunlight with the metal flake. With the engine all back together I'll had left to do was mount the ecu, harness, and the new fuel pressure regulator. Hopefully in the next two weeks or so I'll have it back in the car and running. The last small mod I did was an aftermarket steering wheel (Special hanks to Kverges for helping me find an adapter to work on the Lotus!). It's not a real fancy wheel but it looks good next to the speaker grills.

Everything looks great. I'd like to stop by one day as soon as it actually warms up to check it out.
