The dip is really only visible on the dyno, the dynapacks setup shows things very pronounced which is a good thing for tuning, you don't feel it on the road at all.

But ultimately we ran out of daylight/time on the dynapack, they all wanted to go home.

That's incredulous power for the Lotus. I heard Frank's running 25 psi for this power, just insane amount of boost. Hope to see this beast on the road.

I believe he was running 25 psi and is around 19psi now for more "mellow" street driving.

I just got home from Franks place after taking a ride in this beast! Holy hell!

Very minimal turbo lag(far less than I was expecting with a turbo that size on that motor) and its just a rocket ship....Buttery smooth idle, partial throttle and tip in are super smooth. Instant response when you are already up in the revs. Next to no lag on shifts. Oh ya and a stupid crazy amount of power.

John I hope you realize what you are in for

any charts of the boost plot? Just curious how well it can maintain boost.

naw, no boost maps sorry. He did turn the boost down to 21 psi now though. Not sure where the dyno was run at but I know it was higher

I'm not noticing you guys got the power bug too...nice haha.

Does this build have custom cams or stock cams? I assumed you guys would have a cam profile meant to amp up the midrange after this 7098787698769876 womb opening of his Lotus for such a big power turbo...

After reading this quote from Knucklehead, I might be making a trip out sooner than I thought for a ride in Franks beastie Canyon Carver~

Frank's cars a really well sorted out as far as suspension and both really get up and go. For the canyons I really wonder if there's a lot of unusable power. But the torque was amazing. The pull even in forth gear was incredible. I can't wait for Frank to get his bigger wheels to see if he can make more use of the power. I thought the turbo kick would be too violent and dangerous for the canyons, but it was really smooth. He's repainted his pink wheels, so that was a good thing too.

Hey, I never floored the car with Jacob in it. That was only half throttle.

That would explain the track times.

Was max power the overall goal of the build? The peak is very impressive, but given that it's only making 50whp at 3k rpm, I would have thought a smaller turbo would give a more usable power band?

Rich air,
Austin

Goal was power in the range when the car is driven hard, mid to upper RPMs. Turbo sizing is a compromise, small turbos spool faster but run out of room higher up.

Hey John,

Are you up and running? I'm doing engine assembly this weekend and was thinking of you as I was ordering more parts from MWR today...

Cheers,

Phil

Hey Phil,

Very close... I ordered some additional parts today for deliver tommorrow. Work has been hectic the last month and progress on other things slow. The hard part is done, only a few tedious details remain. Yah know, the primary reason for the lag is me. I find things that I think can be better and can't resist taking more apart and tinkering. I didn't like the hose and harness routing in the engine bay and cockpit and removed all of it. The harness now routes though the center of the firewall instead of the corner behind the driver's seat (odd that Lotus did this). Dremeled off the two engine lid mounting points and glassed over. Removed the silly plastic firewall cover behind the seats and covered the firewall in black Alcantara. Moved the electronics to the other side of the firewalll (cockpit side) and mounted on a CF panel along with a battery cutoff switch. Removed the black 'rug' material in the engine compartment and replaced with ThermoTec material. Removed, drilled out the center and machined the diameter of my B&M shifter, it's now gated, as soon as I have time to reassemble it. Hmm, what am I forgetting? This car is a sickness!
