Should I contact my dealer about the Lotus Supercharger Kit?

Should I contact my dealer about the Lotus Supercharger Kit?
I know there are more powerful versions available, but am I correct that the warranty would stay intact on my '08 if the Lotus Supercharger kit is installed by an authorized Lotus Technician?

Lastly, does anyone have any experience with British Motors in San Francisco, CA or Boardwalk in Redwood City, CA for such an installation?

You are correct that the factory warranty remains intact if you have an authorized dealer install it.

And it is the only street legal kit in California, if you care.

I contacted my dealer. I actually just dropped my car off today. =) everyone I've asked that had gotten the factory sc kit is happy with it with no regrets.

I'm excited for it. Can't wait to drive it next week. 2 hours of nothing but highway to test it out.

Please let us know your impressions after you drive it.

Not only does the warranty stay intact, the factory records are amended to reflect that you now have a SC car (as if it was originally built as one). I know of a California edition owner who had it done and is extremely happy with it. IMO the only way to go if you want forced induction.

I will post my impressions of the drive with pictures. I'm no writer so don't expect a college level write up. Or even a highschool level write up.

Hi vincesf,
I took my Elise in for 30K mile service to British Motors in SF this week and they let me take their supercharged '06 Elise for a drive to half moon bay and back. Ask for Billy in service dept, he is super cool. He told me anyone who is interested in the Lotus supercharger install can come drive it for themselves.

The difference in power is noticeable, especially off the line, and more subtle at higher RPMs.

that's pretty cool. My lotus guy at Durham is named Billy too.

I also had a chance to test drive a sc Elise before I got my car. The power is very noticeable. Along with the whine from the supercharger to top it off.

Thanks for sharing the above information and I shall definitely check in with Billy. Does British Motors in SF retrofit Elise's with the Lotus factory supercharger kits? Did they quote a price and how long to complete an installation?

Yeah they do retrofit... don't remember exact cost and how long it takes. The Elise they have for test drive was a retrofit.

Also worth mentioning: I was surprised at how smooth the boost comes on. Supercharger whine is detectable (really cool) but not too loud. The stage 2 exhaust easily overpowers the SC sound.

Durham told me 2-3 days to finish. Only becuase there's only 1 certified lotus guy there. The cost of the kit was about 6200 I think? Give or take a couple hundred and then whatever the cost of labor is.

The cost of the kit is just under $5000, plus about $1000-$1500 in labor, and then your taxes may vary.

My boss had his Elise supercharged by BMC. He seems to be happy with it. We let a reporter borrow the car and here's his feedback. Supercharged 2005 Lotus Elise.
He was nice enough to swap me his other loaner. My one night stand with the new MBZ E550 - Lamborghini Forum & Photo Gallery - Talk Lambo!
