Hey everyone, here's my story.
I spent a long time debating the whole, Fi thing, going back and forth with the pros and cons...really raking myself over the coals. it took me a while, but I was then lucky enough to find a lightly used BRW kit for sale used here on LT, so I went ahead and took the plunge. I was really excited to get it in the car and see the difference. I intended to use the Lotus Underground guys up in CT to do the install. I went back and forth with them for some time, trying to set up a time they could get it done. In the end, they said they couldn't do it because they lost their lease, and don't have a shop to work in any longer. Strike 1. So I spent some more time searching LT and found DMH here in NJ. I was really excited because Don seemed very knowledgeable, and I thought I had found my man. Unfortunately, he told me last week that because the shop is so swamped, the soonest they could do the install is December. And with the NJ winter, that basically means I'll be waiting to feel a supercharged Elise until next season. Strike 2. So - here I am - frustrated, anxious and a bit nervous that my wife is growing quickly tired of the box of supercharger parts sitting in our living room. I'm completely willing to work on the car myself but I don't have the tools, experience or confidence to do it alone. With that in mind, I'm putting out a plea to LT'ers in the NY/NJ area who have installed an SC before... Please Help me!!!! I can supply: A car DESPERATE for more power A guy dying for said power who's willing to bust his ass A BWR supercharger A garage (although it's pretty tight) OR I'll bring the car to you if preferred Food (the wife's a pretty good cook) Your favorite beer or other beverage Maybe even a small cash token to show my appreciation. You Supply Your expertise Your time Tools Any takers? Please, I'm dyin here ![]()

I installed the BWR myself, and I am not a Lotus mechanic. It just took time and some common sense. If you do it, make sure and take off the clam, as it gives you room to do it comfortably. I don't remember any speciality tools that were needed, so just a regular tool kit is all you would need.

I did my install in 9hrs with the clam on, but then I have tons of tools. I've also built and tuned around 75-100 engines or so and I have 5 ASE certifications. That being said there have been a lot of people on here with just basic knowledge that have installed the kit as well over the course of a few days. It's pretty strait forward and if you run in to any issues I'm sure there are a lot of people on here that would happily answer any questions you might have if the answers aren't already here in the numerous the install threads. If your not mechanically inclined then be sure to read threw the instructions once or twice prior to starting the install as it will help things go much smoother.

You know, I haven't spoken to them...I could try that route. Way back, I had heard good things about that shop, but then some postings started cropping up where experiences were not as positive, so I've stayed away.

william thompson roadsters, in NJ. Has done a bunch of these. nice guy.
Dealer is great, in Hopewell. Sports and Specialist cars (?) Ralph Stechow (sp?) is in N NJ. Is authorized for lotus warranty work.

Hmm Well, I recieved recommendations from some of the guys at the SCDA track events. WNZ Intermecanica regulary attend those, helping out the Lotus cars at the events. They always have several Lotus cars in the shop and he's done a lot of aftermarket mods on cars. My experience to date (for what it's worth) is that they have been very helpfull.

I never worked on a car before except to change the oil one time in college. Just put it in already. Took me about 2 weekends for the BWR/VF2 kit (way worse instructions than BWR install instructions, had to use the BWR instructions for half of it). Had to do many trips to Sears and autozone for tools, that was half the battle. Or shell out the $1500 or so. Dont need no stinkin lotus mechanic, anyone can do it. Its a Toyota.
