Charlie the gremlin killer

Well my weird misfire while turning right turned out to be a wheel sensor, traction control. ECU combined fault. After a reset of the ECU as Charlie instructed me to do, all is fixed. Charlie really knows these cars. A great big thanks.

Has anyone gotten the revised vf2 tune yet; the reflash that should remedy the rich condition code and catalyst below efficiency code?

Jermaine~

I was finally able to take it to the track last weekend. The stage I was flawless...plenty of torque to power out with and it reduced the need to downshift on most turns. Also, no P0172 codes and no cel light...not even once!

I guess the VF tune (unrevised) likes it better when you're really working the engine. I seems less happy if you're driving around and staying under 4K rpm most of the time. It will tell you (ie: cel light) to step on it and hit that second cam more often.

That is true, the vf2 tune is better suited to track driving, where the rpms are kept well above 4500. But, the tune is very docile slogging around town. The problem comes when you are cruising at ~3000+ rpms and want to accelerate immediately...the motor hesitates and bogs down until the rpms rise to ~4200-4500...it almost feels like a turbo spooling up, but not very linear/smooth

I'll be going to the NJMP track later this summer.

What HPDE group are you in? Could you keep up with higher hp cars on the straights?

Interesting, I never encountered that problem.

On a side note...I had occassional stalling when coming to a stop. After I re-tightened all the clamps to the piping, my stalling issues have improved.

I'm gonna try a work-around for the P0172 code while waiting for the revised tune from Jermaine. I noticed if you drive before the engine has properly warmed (160 deg oil temp), you get a P0172 more frequently. When I was at the track, I made sure my oil temp was properly warmed past 160 deg before going out and I never got a CEL light.

I'll experiment with this theory.

that's not oil temp...it measures water temp

I also have an oil temp gauge along with boost and a/f.

Anyways, I took it out for a drive along the freeway after letting the engine idle to properly warm it up to 160 deg OIL TEMP. 30 min later, I get the CEL light w/ the P0172 code. It always happens when cruising along the freeway. I'll just have to wait for Jermaine's revised tune.

just curious,
how do you guys read the code? is there some kind of plug in gismo? by cel light i guess you mean the red light top middle of gauge?
when this comes on you plug in a reader into the ecu to check the code???

Read the code with a OBD reader that plugs into OBD port under drivers side dash. Autozone will do for free or spend $80-800 for your own.

The CEL is the "check engine light". It is the red engine picture that lights up on your dash when you put key in ignition (and hopefully goes out after a couple of seconds).

I had like a half second of latency after pressing gas pedal before accelearting. I had this for weeks after doing the install, thought it was normal. FVMC found minor vacuum leak when diagnosing separate clogged fuel line issue, now no latency whatsoever. Press the pedal and gogogo.

I saw someone earlier complain of latency, bet they have a vacuum leak.

Will add a post soon on the fuel filter install (not in this thread). It is like $5 from autozone and takes 5 minutes. Would have saved me $1500 and 3 weeks driving time, but is another story not belonging in this thread as is unrelated to VF2.

Is the filter washable/reusable?
What is the outer diameter for the intake pipe?

Did you get dirty fuel?

To increase airflow to the intercooler and engine bay, I replaced my side grills with the extra-wide TWRD CF side scoops.

I also copied biodan's and Perry's idea (HOW MANY BLOWN ALTERNATORS???) and routed a 3" diam air duct from the side scoop to the alternator.

What numbers did you see on the temp drop across the IC from doing this?

The big scoops are tempting. I have to wonder at what point increasing the scoop size loses more hp from drag than it gains from lower IC temp. I suppose in any event the lower intake temperature is a good idea for reliability.

I'm also interested to know what your IAT is. Just want to know IAT for any VF kit.

Refer to the kit contents picture in the first post to see the included filter. It is a wire/cotton mesh. I do not use oil on it. Outside diameter of the intake pipe is 75.75mm
