which SCCA class(es) can the 2-11 legally compete in? I have a feeling the vast majority of 2-11's sold in the US are going to be HPDE cars exclusively.
anyone planning on racing theirs wheel-to-wheel?

This is a FWIW, but Fox Valley Motorcars has a 2-11 on display at the Chicago Auto Show. They let me inside the display area last night to get an up-close. I didn't ask if it is FS.

I would think so but I am not sure what the plan is for it.

I think someone could make a call and find out.

Seems there is now some type of track license required, have one but, I wonder how many cars will now be sold. Maybe it is just better to get a exige s of a Diasio, hate hassles with feds it never ends, every month there will be a new requirement. Firearms are easier than this!

The first eight cars have been ordered from Lotus USA with mandated paperwork, including assigned serial numbers, submitted to EPA/NHTSA. The first eight may be in production now. Delivery is more than likely going to be late April at the earliest.

No mention of a track license was made when inquiries were placed at the Houston dealership. Only the signing of the afore mentioned affidavits.
May vary in other states, who knows.

No...it's a Fed REQUIREMENT on the import of track (non-street legal) cars this time around by Lotus. I heard directly from Lotus...most dealers seem to be out of the loop with regard to this issue.

It's actually NOT a requirement. I spoke with my dealer (Aston Martin Lotus Motorsports in Waltham MA) this morning, they had not heard about it and spoke with Lotus Sport and they DID verify that it had been threatened but was not being pursued by anyone. The cars are (according to Mr. Van Dyke in the UK) being built in order of receipt of the signed EPA/DOD paperwork. Lotus is building 34 (out of 30) and my orange on is one of three. Delivery is expected late April / early May which could be great or suck because between thos two time frames I have 4 days at the Glen.

I've also brought in a couple non Fed cars and Bikes. There isn't a Race Car category, it's just FED or not FED, and the paperwork is less on non-fed cars.

For verification Call Steve Serio @ 781-547-5959

I'm getting twitchy!

Well.... I know that mine is being built, as it is one of the first 8 cars coming into the US. The Comp. license was requested by Lotus USA....I got the call from the distributor, not the dealer. Call Lotus USA...what does Steve know?

Jack,

I had heard the same as the other gent with the statement supported by the local dealer.
Making a race license a requirement for the 2-11 does not make much sense considering it is not rigged for most sanctioning bodies in it's as delivered configuration. If you want to run in SCCA a bit of extra work will be required.
Out of the box it's fine for auto-x and non-sanctioned club events.

Any way, congrats on your orders and hope you get them soon. You will be having a blast.
WW, that orange is a sweet color combo!

I agree.... it makes NO sense and it was never a Lotus requirement. It's something that came up (to their surprise) when Lotus USA was attempting to obtain the necessary clearance from the appropriate Federal agencies to import the 2-11. The affidavit first and then the license requirement, neither one was in play when the Cup240 or 255 were imported.

Perhaps it has changed and my information is bad..... but as recently as March 10th Lotus requested of me, and had to supply, the above referenced docs on a VIN/customer-specific basis for the first group of cars scheduled to be imported.

In any event, the first batch of 2-11's will be here soon enough.

Since the car has not yet made it here in any numbers the SCCA may not have a spot for it yet. I imagine it may make E production of some sort or other. Some mods will be required before it is SCCA w to w elligable in any class.
There are so many classes now it's hard to say which it will fall in to.

PatrickO, have you inquired about SCCA eligability?

If I could win a big case I would buy one of those in a heartbeat. I truly think I could get it street legal'd in KS.
