I'm not sure if I have been called sir before Its been a while since last update ,so I figured I can write few words . Final bodywork is taking long long time . Had to redo several areas all the edges around wheel wells are pain . But on and off making progress .Car doesnt change visually when you work on gaps and edges and all the small stuff so its a little frustrating, you can spend half a day working on it and can barely see what has been done . Will make some pictures of changes that have been made . |

Just found this thread. I love projects and this is the motherload!!! Nice work.
What sucks is shotgunning the first nine pages and then having to get it piecemeal. Like a good TV show. Hate to wait for next weeks episode. What did we do before we could watch a whole season at a time. Waiting sucks!

Its been a while since posted some pictures .Did not have much time to mess with it in last couple months ,so the plan to finish it by end of March seems a little unrealistic . Final bodywork took a while ,didnt want to do halfa$$ job because car can look only as good as bodywork on it . Went to paint store last week to buy materials just to find out that they can't even mix Lamborghini Arancio Borealis with their top Chromabase paint .They send me to diferent shop . $300 for quart . And what surprised me the most is its not orange base and then mid pearl coat . The base colour is white and then you have to build it up semi transperant orange pearl ,same exact thing as candy colour . Elise is pretty small car but putting 4-5 coats it still comes to about 3 maybe even 4 quarts . So just paint comes down to around $1000.
If it was street car its one thing .So Im kinda to square one as far as paint . Found House of kolor makes candy orange that looks kinda similar have ordered quart will see how it turs out . These pictures arter final bodywork . Im sure for some it will look like step back . |

Couple days ago put first coat of 2K primer (few shots ), going to put one more it works as a sealer ,just want to make sure nothing is coming through . Made some progress with paint got the brake down of ingreadients that go it Lamborghini Orange . Dupont makes all of them. person that I know in paint store said he can mix them up no problem $300 for 3 quarts
. So looks like it will be orange after all . Also having hard time finding large enough spray booth to rent . There is a total of 22 parts and the car . After you lay everything out average 15x25 spray booth is not enough .I'm picking up paint tomorow will see how it looks . |

It took me about 40 min to put primer coat on all parts . 8 coats and about 15 min in between ,its going to be a long day . Cant wait ![]() |

Small step for mankind ,huge step for Elise ......
WHAT A DAY it turned out to be ....... Early morning got everything set up , Had issues with spray gun . Had to get different one . Shop where I have rented spray booth, mostly does mechanical and frame work and only some painting, so they had very good compressor , but no filtration system . After spraying first few parts starded getting fish eye . Had to go home pick up the fish eye eliminator . Waited till white completely dries , had to sand all those spots . Had major miscalculation as far as matierials go . White I have bought 2qt of Nason base, totally forgot that it mixes 2:1 .That gave me 3 sprayable quarts . Never thought that this small car is going to take so much paint . Had enought only to put one heavy coat and do all the touchups on fish eye . After started spraying orange i thought I will barelly have enought for 3 coats for the clams rockers and doors not to mention rest of parts .Thankfully it did cover pretty good . I have ran out on the last inch of the last part . And put only 2 coats of it (second pretty heavy ) on all parts . Literally used it to the last drop . My friend end up spraying the car .I had to hold and turn all the small parts to get all the edges . Got blasted with white then orange and clear . The orange paint was a trip . On diferent angles it looks gold and looks like certain areas doesnt have enouth paint . And this car defenately has some weird shapes and angles . Both of us were going back and forth , does this spot needs more, is this edge 2 coats .......... With both clams on the car it was extremely dificult to reach and spray certain areas .Thats 28x15 spray booth and it was cramped in there .Last but not least 3 coats of clear . By the way ran out of that too, back harch, mirrors and latches have only 2, used whole gallon on it . One coat of orange on piece of sample that I have painted earlier doesnt do this colour justice. After pretty stresfull and long day I think it was well worth it . Car turned out perfect. This is defenatelly quickest I have posted pictures .Got home 30 min ago ... Guys at the shop let us keep it there over the weekend for the clear to cure. Will make more pictures on Mondey . Let me know what you think. In person colour looks much brighter than in these pictures . |
