2009 Exige Cup 260 details

Lotus unveils even lighter 2009 Exige Cup 260 - Autoblog

I hope this arrives in the USA identical to this. I was considering an 08 240, but with the updates for 09, I don't think I will be able to resist. I may finally give in and buy one.

wheels are OK, stripes are ugly tho

plus LOTUS needs to stop hyping cars up, then when they get here their NOT street legal?!?
I.E. all cup cars and the 2-11

not good if they want to survive as an actual strong car brand and finally make some money

This car will likely be street legal here, with a few items not included from the Cup version.

Really? How about the weight savings?? Exiges are getting fat.

I'm just hoping the price doesn't jump too much.

There is no way the cup car will be street legal. What would be the point of the Exige S models then? They'd cannibalize their own product lines.

There will be a street version (S260) of the Cup Car 260, as Abe has mentioned in previous threads. The street version will have air bags, of course, and other requirements, so the weight for the street version is to be slightly higher than for the Cup Car version. Abe already mentioned carbon fiber bits, so I suspect those will translate over to the S260. I just hope the Cup Car IC and airbox stay on the S260 as well.

Look at all of the pictures from that link; especially the one of the interior. Notice how pretty it is? Alcantara and CF everywhere. In fact, the one they are showing only has the fire supression system and those other do dads on the dash; it doesn't even have the cage in it. Do the current Cup cars have an interior like that???

I will bet eating a Gecko that they will have a street legal version of it as an Exige S 260. I just hope we get all the alcantara as shown on the dash (they have it on the binacle, airbag, and center vents), and on the steering wheel (even the area behind the steering wheel has some alcantara along with some CF), and then of course the center console, partial seats and partial doors. Then the rest of the dash looks like it is CF all the way down to the door sills and maybe the shells of the seats (guessing on that one).

I think the interior is gorgeous and is all business, but without the cheap plastic.

I will take mine in Aspen White and peel off the stripes and any other stickers.

I am no expert, but I sat in a MY 07 Cup car at Silver Star and I think it had a similar interior, though without all the CF and it had a roll cage installed.

Safe bet - that is the case. I will ask Abe tommorrow if he can release the specs on the S260 yet.

It won't be cheap with all that CF!

The article specifically says it will be road legal throughout the EU. Will it be in the uS?? As for what is the point of different models not everyone can afford or will want to pay the extra for the highest spec version - same reason Prosche sell the Cayman and the Cayman S

In the US, there will be the Cup 260 version and a street version (S260).

Nice..

Depending on the price, I may have found my next upgrade from my Elise.

Seriously though, how ugly are those stripes... I fee like they're trying a little too hard to make them flamboyant.

Whoa... I should've known. If those prices are right, this baby is going to be over 100k, no? Gotta wait a few years afterwards for the used models... haha.

Hell, I think upgrading my wheels to those ultra lightweight wheels alone would be a nice mod.

Although those wheels will be damn expensive.

Question: Anyone figure out if the rear brakes are upgraded as well, or is it the same ones we all have just with upgraded pads?

Nice to see a company offering new models that weigh less. Kudos to Lotus. The interior looks great. I like the show through CF touches. I bet it looks pretty good in the flesh.

So we are talking about less than 100lbs savings on a cup car. The street car will essentialy have the motor and some naff CF bits for more $?
