211 Factory brakes
Just visited the factory and had the aooportunity to go through the 211 with Nick Adams. Asked a few questions about the brakes. According to Nick the stock brakes are very adequate.
He did say that in racing enviroments with slicks the ap brakes "could" be needed, however Nick believes that many drivers overuse the brakes because they slow too much not realising how much speed these cars, elise included can carry through a corner. Went round the track with the Lotus test driver in a 211. The car had stock brakes. I have raced skip barber, the stock brakes worked extremly well lap after lap. Not to say that a hard charging racer slowing from a long straight would not use better brakes especialy on a higher speed track, but the limits of the 211 are extremly high, the demo car was lapping all day. People have also asked about the tow eye. Indeed Lotus recomends using thethe roll bar to tow the 211. The 211 has a specific bolt on bolt off fiberglass crash structure ahead of the front wheels. A tow eye can be installed but any lateral pull can have an effect of this. |

Question is wether to go with upgraded brakes now, or learn the car to its limits andthen go for slicks and brakes. The feeling at lotus was learn to drive the stock car to its limits and then upgrade, this way you are sure that the car is at its limit not you. But upgrading l;ater could be more of a hassle and expese, I'll look into it.
The Lotus track is quite an eye opener, especialy the tire wall right after the bump. One of the nicest parts of the experience is seeing that Lotus is all about the drive and nothing about the pose, unlike ferrari and porche which is now 80-90% pose. |

Pat not you... Stock Lotus brakes do not make the grade under race conditions particularly at circuits like Zhuhai which is fast & very hard on brakes. Every Lotus on stock rotors has suffered the same fate here at this circuit.
a nice upgrade for the 2-eleven would be some nice slotted AP rotors & I know if Lotus were to race the 2-eleven they would upgrade the rotors. |
