Any chance of registering a 2-eleven for the road?

I was just wondering if there is any chance of registering a 2-eleven for the road in the US, or does it depend on the state? Has anyone ever tried to register one?
I can't afford to spend that kind of money and not be able to drive it on the street.
When you see that Ariel Atoms can be registered the 2-eleven looks more like a regular car.

You can do anything if you put your mind to it. Think outside the box. I purchased a 1999 Elise S1 in Germany in April of 1999 then brought it home, as a track Use only car and I found my way around the exceptions in my State of Missouri and registered mine and drive it for 5 fun years, inspections, re inspections, pulled over by patrol and was never a huge deal. Research you state and do not get in a hurry. With all of the economic garbage you will find a deal or two out there I am sure.

Im willing to bet that you cant get it done....no title, no vin and from reports on here, you had to sign paperwork saying that you would attempt to register it... you would also have to install things like head lights anyway...

again, ill bet against it...

Ya, not going to happen The Atom is legal because it's registered as a kit car. Our Atom's chassis and engine had to be bought from two different places to enable it to be registered as a kit. The 2-Eleven is an un-VINed, factory race car.

in CA you might be able to register it as a special construction vehicle. but if you can't afford to own it as a track-only car, you definitely can't afford the process to import a 2-11 that way.

anyway you'd have to find an exception process and those are state-by-state. states like MO might be easier.

Anything is possible with enough time or money or both. Bill Gates has a non legal Porsche he can somehow ($$$) drive.

We got my buddies dune buggy registered in MI and it has to pass an inspection. We bought a vin number off a guy I knew (for only $50) and it was registered as some year Beetle. My Bradly GT2 was registered as a Beetle too. So maybe you can do the same thing. Get a vin number off an Elise and go from there. If it comes down to it you might just have to flip the right person a few bucks. - My friend had a problem when he needed to get emissions done on his 240SX. His problem was he put a Japanese turbo Silvia engine in it with cranked up boost and no cats. It was just a matter of a few bucks to the right guy to get a passing test. (the emissions dude ran his own car to produce the paperwork) Legal? no. "Legal"? yes. lol. well kind of. He got his plates anyway and had the piece of paper he needed.

There is a way to do it. I mean how hard is it really to get a VIN? And how hard is it to fool a couple government workers? Look at all the illegal immigrants. They get Soc. Sec. numbers and everything they need all the time. Go see their guy, maybe he'll help you out. To the right people this wouldn't even be a challenge- just giving a car a vin. Bah. no prob. I know a Bulgarian guy here. His uncle steals cars. Lots of them. High dollar ones. Usually Mercs and Bimmers. They have a whole system. They all go overseas. They get new Vins for them and I guarantee it's a lot harder to swap all the vins on an S500 than it is to slap one a car that doesn't have one. The Lotus vin is just a sticker anyway. Everyone along the line gets their cut. Of course they still make a massive profit because well they they got the car for free (ok they payed the guy $5K to get it) Then they have people in the country they go though in their version of the DMV or however they do it that run them through and they get a small cut per car too. So if you can't just pop a salvaged elise's Vin on a 211 than seek out your friendly local Mafia dude and he should be able to get you taken care of.

Maybe try a European vin. Maybe try to get plates for your regular car (would help if it were a Lotus) and then then do a plate transfer. Co-worker in MI used to do that, learned it from his Dads vette club. He had the vin to a Chevy Sprint so he would get plates for that, and then transfer them to his Mercedes. It was $14 for a plate transfer but a whole bunch more for the Mercedes plates if he didn't do it his way. Where theres a will theres a way. Our system is corrupt enough I don't even think it would be much of a challenge if you were determined.

The Atom is a "kit car" meaning the drivetrain is sold separately from the chassis. Obviously that's not the case with the 2-11...

What if you just bought an Elise, supercharged it, and just chopped it down to size...? I know you probably wouldn't do that

You would not have all the legal paperwork required by the US. Probably would have difficulty getting it through customs.

Remember that Gizmodo guy Stefan Eriksson that crashed his Enzo and said "Dietrich was driving"?
He managed to have a stolen Enzo from England and his wife a stolen SLR McLaren registered here. Plenty of people probably thought that couldn't be done either.

Favorite quote from a College genetics professor: "There's a chance you could give birth to a rabbit".

Actually legally registering is one thing, giving the appearance of legal registration is much easier.

It's doable. I would think that the biggest issue would be the paperwork that you have to sign stating that you won't register it for the road. Obviously the reason that Lotus needs you to sign that is so that they don't get heat for bringing in a car that hasn't been approved and encouraging it to be used on the road. They need to keep everyone at the NHTSA and EPA very happy with them. Because of this, if it is something that you intend to do I would suggest that you buy the car second-hand so that they have no direct connection to you and you don't have to sign that paperwork.

A good test of if and how it could be done would be to find out if there are any Radical's registered for the street here in the US.

Get a dealer license and plate, probably the easiest route and the most "legal" way of driving a 211 on the street.

Also, don't be posting your "intentions" on a public internet forum.

I would imagine the consequences of getting caught (if you're proven to have broken a law) would be confiscation of the vehicle...though I'm sure you would get to keep the loan.

...didn't I read somewhere that all/most of those SunSpeed Elise's are gone now due to the "method" used to register them?
