Has the windshield remained stock? Or has it been swapped for a lighter alternative? .. and any more pictures?

Those times are just fantastic - you must have completely demoralised the other competitors!

Oh - and the car looks awsome too!!!

I just removed the windshield and replaced it with 1/8" lexan. This is 1/3 lighter than the speed glass and 1/2 the price. It is a Monte Carlo windshield cut to fit. I need to take more pics. I should have some of the new box of goodies today or tomorrow!

Nice Fred, but your picture taking skills are terrible... I thought you were going to give us some nice eye candy... a couple shots here and there is simply not acceptable. This thread should be chalked full of pics! Where's the turbo setup? What other suspension changes have you made? Need pics

Cheers,

Phil

OK, Phil, I consider myself called out. Here are some pics:

1. General view from the rear/side. The thermally coated stainless ForcedFed exhaust manifold. Note I tried to keep everything quick removeable. The shock cansiters are clip in brackets for easy removal. The Vent can is hose-clamped in a low-CG place. The 4 pins on the frame are the locating points for the removable clam. The removeable clam is the BEST thing I ever did. For the readers at home it is NOT a solution for your street car, like the tilting clam.

Notice my lightweight exhaust. This is a ceramic coated stainless pipe. The NGK WBO2 sensor has particularly good resistance to leaded fuel. I use one per season. The EFI standalone runs in closed loop mode even in WOT. This provides very exact A/F under all conditions. The copper plate is a heat sink to help protect the WBO2 from the excessive heat it sees so close to the turbo. Also notice the grey coating inside the exhaust. Lead residue.

One of my other favorite parts. The quick-removeable undertray. I am fortunate that I have worked on my car with a great race car fabricator outside of Phoenix. He has about 30 years working for grand-am and other teams. He maintains vintage race cars etc. This part was his doing. The rear diffuser and middle tray are held in place with only 6 CAM-LOCK quarter turn fasteners. Again, this required alot of changes from stock to work. but the result is that it only takes 30 seconds to take off the rear clam or both undertrays. The undertrays are now separate from the clam, so removing 1 does not require removing the other.

In this picture you can see the change to the rear upright to help fix the suspension geometry. As we found, once the car is lowered to a point, the roll centers get all messed up. Here we lowered the attachment point of the upper control arm to lower the rear roll center. Additionally, you can see the top-half of the "stacked" springs on the Penske shocks. The valving in the Penske's is very similar to the valving in the Penske's we sell! Just a bit higher in the rears to handle the stiffer springs.

That's it for now. I have more to post later on, including the front suspension, electrical etc.

Fred, the car is awesome!

Is there any video available of it running and/or moving?

I have a vid somewhere at nationals last year, but it sucked then by way of comparison. I'll see if I can get some at the San Diego regional.

I agree that the rear uprights need work from there OE form. Eliseparts offers a solution, but perhaps a little too minimal given the price. I think it changed the geometry my only 40mm.n (IIRC)

Will BWR offering a similiar solution?

More pics please.

As of right now, we are not offering this as a solution as there is a machining involved etc etc. I looked at the Eliseparts solution and had similar conclusions: 1. Very expensive. 2. Not enough change. 3. Won't fit the stock brakes! Ours is purely custom for race only blah blah blah at this point. I can make recommendations if someone does want to go that way. I'll have more pics of the front this afternoon.

I'm not sure that exhaust is CARB legal. When will the kit be CARB approved!

Nice!

Phil
