Cup Car Lap Belt Mounts

Would anyone have close-up pictures of any factory driver's side lap belt mounting points?

I'm curious how Lotus mounted the belts. Thank you!

More specifically they go through the extrusion that runs along the back edge of the floor in the car. The actual floor is not strong enough to mount the belts to.

The Lotus Sport seat mount comes with the hardware you need and a manual that shows how to install them. It is obviously very important that it is done correctly.

Patricko -

Do you know where I can buy the Cup seat mounts? My dealer is having trouble getting an answer from Lotus.

Thanx

Jerry

Eric at Newport European knows what it is. It is called "Lotus Sport competition seat mount kit", I don't know what the part number is.

Yes, that is it

It has all of the bits and pictures of the eye bolts and how to install, I am guessing that is the Lotus installation manual.

Pictures

To answer my own question... Here's the driver's seat outboard lap belt anchor and some pictures of underneath. The pics of the inboard anchor vanished between the dealership and my home... uggg.

These are from a current cup car and I believe are factory installed.

I think you will find that mounting them that far back makes the angle to the too flat.

The reason that Lotus mount the seat belt buckle and the end of the belt to a structure that moves with the seat in the production car is because that is the only way to make the geometry comply with the regulations. Obviously the regs state the optimum angle for the belts to be mounted.

Its a problem in the Lotus and there may be no better way but mounting the belts that far back is not good.

Sorry, it was not very clear.

The angle i am refering to is the angle that he lap belt makes when viewed from the side. In other words, look at someone wearing a conventional seat belt, the lap belt when viewed from the side should (starting at its highest point) form an angle down to its fixing on the floor somewhre between 0 degrees (vertical) and 15 degrees to the rear.

I think you will find that when the lapbelt anchor bolts are located so far back the angle is more like 45 degrees, depending on how far foward or back the seat is adjusted. obviously the further forward the seat is adjusted, the flatter and worse the angle becomes.

i now understand your comment, but i must disagree with the assesment of the angle. my lap belts are mounted through the floor cross beam at the base of the bulkead (similar to the picture) and the angle is no more than 15 to 20 degrees. 45 degrees would put the buckle somewhere out by your knees.

Remember that the existing mounting points are in the correct place....anything further back is less good...on the rear cross member is as far back as is possible in our cars and as such it could not (in our cars) be any worse.

The problem is that as the seat moves fwd (say for a shorter driver) the angle gets flatter, thats why OEMs have to mount the lap belt anchor points on the seat so that the angle remains within the angle limits set down in the regulations.

my $0.02 would take harness belts mounted through the cross member rather than piggybacking on the OE seat frame mounts which is held in place by the threads of just four hex bolts. angle versus potential for stripped-out bolts... i'll take a couple of degrees out of spec. to each their own.
