Cup Car vs 2-Eleven?
I'm toying with the idea of getting back into competitve driving by starting with "track day toys". What are the opinions of the virtues of the 240/255 Cup Cars vs a 2-Eleven?
Obviously a 2-Eleven is $75 - 80k but I'm not sure what a previously enjoyed 240/255 would run, but all cost is a factor. Anyone with a used Cup Car please contact me via PM. Thanks

The main thing with the 211 is the reduction in weight - pushing 200kgs/440lbs.
It has downsides - good weather really helps and driving everywhere in a crash helmet can get tiresome (Wiley X sunglasses help lots though). The great thing about the 211 is that being all exposed just adds so much to the driving that it "feels" alot faster. Ah - just remembered - accross the pond you arent' allowed to drive the 211 on the road. Can you trailer a car ok as this might make up your mind! |

Over here (across the pond), the cup car can't be driven on the street either (legally). So it's a trailer situation either way.
To the OP: I'd go with the 211 over the cup car. Let's face it, an Exige is a GREAT track car, but there are certain compromises because it's street legal. The Cup car has those compromises (more weight than it should have for one), but isn't street legal. If you are not going to be able to drive the car on the street anyway, a cup car just seems like a compromise to me.

That KG cup car is so sweet looking
![]() One advantage that no one has mentioned is the full roll cage in the Cup car.

notice that open wheel cars and sports racers don't have roll cages. however, the driver must be short enough to fit within this safe area. that doesn't work in a car with a windshield and roof, as those parts will deform across that "roll plane" in a rollover and intrude into the cockpit if not for the cage. |

I'm pretty sure it's referred to as the "broomstick" line.

I'm not sure taller drivers pass the broomstick test (image isn't hotlinking), here's patricko:
http://i.pbase.com/o6/72/659372/1/81...4T7009Edit.jpg Some tracks/clubs may not allow you to run just for this reason. I'm just getting into HPDE's, but one club didn't let me run in my elise because of this (look at my avatar to the left, you can how high my helmet is and I'm only 6 foot, maybe 6'1) some have gone to further lengths. Maybe it's a requirement for the series and not necessary... I'm not sure. I guess it depends on the owner and what they plan to do with thier car ![]()
