Access panels are off due to work on the car still being done. I just shot some quick photos after tooling around the paddock post-setup and brake bleed. Draw an imaginary diagonal line from the bar to the front of the car as if the car was upside down. making room for the fact that the fiberglass will crush until you get to structure, and tell me how high you think the bar is.
My goal is that the car can in fact invert and my head not hit the ground. My helmet projects about 6" above the halo on the driver's seat. |

It's looking awesome. I'd almost say it looks better than a 2-11.

Although the cage does look a bit awkward, function drives it so I can live with that. I do like the look better than the 2-11, which is "blocky" looking to me. This car has programmable engien management, data acquisition dash, what I believe is a more robust cage, and significant more power potential with the turbo. A ton of work, but out of pocket under $30K for this car.
Of course it has not driven super hard yet, so who knows. For sure there will be plenty of work developing it to run as it should, but that is sort of the "fun." I expect to be around at my house at MSR on 12/5-6; not sure I will drive since I am a member and usually drive on member days at session fee prices, but I might try to sweet talk Rick into letting me play and maybe instructing if he is short-handed Last edited by kverges : 10-27-2009 at 05:45 AM. |

Got some time to wring it out on track at MotorSort Ranch this weekend and drive with some pace on the traditional 1.7 mile CCW configuration. I think the setup is off, the tires act like they want a lot less camber and I need a proper LSD desperately as the wheelspin simply shreds the inside shoulder of the rear wheels. It is still the stock engine, so boost was limited to approximately 8.5 psi.
With used tires that appear to be pretty good, and a full tank of fuel (needed due to fuel starvation on the long left-handers ) the best lap, data below, was 1:16.96 which was pretty satisfying given all the development ahead. Units on graph are mbar for manifold pressure, speed is mph, lateral acceleration is Gs. Data I did not plot showed that intake air temperature never exceeded about 98 deg, ambient was about 75 (in fact internal logger temp was over 100 deg F), and no oil pressure starvation at all. |

When I went to stiffer springs I found that I only needed about 2 degrees negative camber in back, otherwise I had the same problem with wheelspin. With my open diff and stock engine I spin both rear tires more often than I experience inside wheelspin. How was the balance of the car? Seems like there wasn't much power on understeer if you are spinning inside wheels.

The car still has a significant mechanical push - it actually feels better in the faster stuff. I am at 2.1 deg negative in the back and am probably going to try 1.5 deg and see. I hope that reduces push and rear wheelspin in one fell swoop.
Maybe a spool! |
