Hi Travis,

My speculation on why Lotus left the big brakes and slicks off was to keep the price down.

Patrick did have a problem with over-heating his brakes in a race setting and believes it is because of the slicks that he ran on the last day. Since the 2-11 is 500 pounds lighter than the Cup cars, I've got to believe that the standard ( same as on the S/240/Elise) brakes are up to the task.

My theory on the cause of Patrick's brake issue is that they didn't change the SRF brake fluid and do a complete flush/bleed on his system when they changed out the front pads and discs just before the race -- I'm guessing here and could be wrong. Given the amount of water that car saw when he took delivery (it seemed like it was raining for the entire time his was driving that car in England ) and some of the heavy track usage it saw at Hethel and Goodwood, I've got to believe that the brake fluid was truly spent by the time the car made its way to China.

Btw, did the "earthing" suggestion do the trick on the 255?

ummm... hi guys.

how about someone just give the kind poster a clear and concise answer without any sort of ancillary commentary? it serves no purpose and really just brings the entire board down. it drives away new users and makes some people very unhappy.

elisetalkdotcom should be a happy place. let's all work together to make it everything it can be.

mmmmkay?

Someone ran one in a race on slicks and overheated the brakes- given the lighter weight and not being a issue on the Elise / Exiges S was surprised to hear that. Sure the higher speeds come into play in cooking the brakes but didn't expect that from a 2-Eleven.

So my take on it, Lotus left a bit in the tank as to what they could have done with it. Not sure if it's due to cost or marketing.
Recalling that Lotus originally announced two versions of the 2-11 for the UK, one being "road legal" there (AO48s, standard brakes, etc) and the other being track only (slicks, track grade brakes, etc), it seems that LCUSA may have decided to sell the UK road legal version in the US and call it a "track car". Just another speculation.

Jack

I didnt have a chance to check it before we got to the track and didnt have the required tools / time to do it at the track. we are real good friends with the Toyota service manager (he came to the track with us on monday) and Saturday he is going to put it on the rack and check it.

Thanks for your shared knowledge

I understand they are completely different cars but any one who has run slicks vs. dot tires knows how great they are. Its like the diff. between street tires and dot race tires. Our cup car was 2 seconds a lap faster with the slicks than with 048's.

lotus should expect that people would run (or want to run) slicks.

I dont know enough about the standard brakes to know if they are up to par, it seems alot of people are spending big money to upgrade them. If lotus has these (cup 255) brakes available, why not put them on or for that matter even make it and OPTION. (YES, THIS IS EMPHASIS)

That is not the case.

The track spec is the same worldwide.

I asked Nick Adams about the brakes at LOG27, he said better brakes weren't needed due to the weight difference. He also did well over 125laps at the track without problem...

The larger calipers have the same piston area as the stock calipers, just more pad surface area. If the brakes are overheating, you need to get rid of more heat. Rotor material and pads are what need to be upgraded. The Lotus rotors are made of cheese!

Thanks. Yes! Straight answers and wit are great!

But constant sarcasm from everyone here? Painful.
