First of all, the school is well run and the facility is fabulous. When I attended in Spring 2008, they still had the original fleet of old 2005 Elise "press cars" and one N/A 2006 Exige. One of the comments I made on the exit survey was a suggestion that they upgrade the Lotus fleet to include some S/C cars so students would have a chance to drive a car closer to what they owned (i.e., all of the Exige S and Elise S/C models). I don't know what cars they are currently running for the school, but I hope they have been able to upgrade the fleet a bit. Even with the N/A cars, the fundamentals of the two-day course still apply; it's just more fun to be able to experience the school in a car similar to what you drive back home.

Over the summer, I took the bronze class at the Lotus Driving Academy, the school that is based at Hethel, the Lotus Factory. I was in England already, as part of a European summer trip, but it was totaly worth it. The first class includes a brief history of Lotus and a tour of the factory. More advanced classes are available as well. I highly recommend visiting the factory! I am thinking about going back for the next class, as it offers additional time on the track. Pricing is quite competitive, and the folks running and teaching the class have been working with Lotus for a long time.

Does the Lotus Driving Academy have the option of taking the course with a left-hand drive car?

Lots of info in the links above but I'll add it is a great facility. I did the Radical school there in 2008, had the track to myself and my full time instructor. It's a great drive from Vegas and a really nice group of people. At the time they were more focused on Corvette owners.

Nope. but you are on a track... no real lanes to speak of. And shifting with the left hand is not that tricky. Not half as tricky and getting the car over to the correct apex point in each turn.

For whatever reason, the Lotus folks do not like the Vegas school very much. They wouldn't go into details.

I have taken the school, I would take it again. It got me going in the right direction. So to speak.
Peace Love and Lotus

I did the Level 1 Lotus two day in '08 and Level 2 Lotus two day this past April (8 of the 10 of us were from Colorado. We're slated to do Level 3 in Corvettes Spring 2010) and they both ROCKED. Great, GREAT facility (we were karting 15 minutes after the end of day 1 and drinking beers, pool / hot tub side, 15 minutes after the 'graduation ceremony' on day 2. Awesome! Did a little window shopping at Switchcars while we were at it). This place is tough to beat. Great curriculum, a fulfilling amount of seat time and I've been very happy with most all of the instructors we've had.

Being able to receive instruction in the same (similar) kinda car as you have is icing on the cake. Besides, you can visit Sherri's Ranch nearby for evening, uhhhhm... 'entertainment.' Do it!
