I've driven the west coast tracks and Barber, and I must say, it ranks up there with the best of them. I believe Infineon is more challenging (at least for me
), but I'd fly to Birmingham for another opportunity to play at Barber! I can only imagine how much fun it would be in a Lotus as I was in a Porsche at the time.

Raced there twice with SCCA. Lots of elevation change and cool types of corners.
I still prefer VIR, and it's longer straights, uphill esses, and roller coaster. But, Barber's corkscrew, the high speed kink, and the two long carousels are neat stuff. |

I haven't tried Barber yet... but I'll put in another vote for Grattan! Great technical track - blind corners, off camber turns, lots of elevation change...
On the other hand though, I'm pretty happy with the full course at Autobahn - also designed by Alan Wilson.

Tremblant is in fantastic shape though and the rest of the package is outstanding.

Barber rocks!!! Love it! Technical, tight and exciting. I definitely suggest it for any Lotus owner.

Calabogie is a brand new track in Ontario, just west of Ottawa. Just went there a couple weeks ago, it was amazing. Its 3 miles, about 70 feet of elevation changes, all set in the forest, trees & rocks. It can only be run in one direction, so you get to be up close to the surroundings, but still have safe runoffs.
There wasn't a patch or seam in the entire track. I'll post a couple pics later. |

Anybody else have pictures or evaluations of Barber they would like to share?
I'm feel like one of those people who becomes infatuated with Disney. Can't wait to return to Barber!

To me, the most challenging turns at Barber are the carousel after pit-out, the "kink" near the back straight, and the right hander after the back straight. Also, the set-up for the front straight is tricky. Actually, the whole damned course is tricky, and that's why we all love it

I was a ski bum in my early days (and still am). Now I'm a track bum. Here's how three guys from Illinois venture to Barber in Alabama for a weekend of track time.

Another vote for Sears Point (Infineon).
It is frickin' challenging. There are some high speed parts of the track where you are going pretty fast and you better be committed and know what you are doing or youre in trouble. |

I just spent the weekend at Mid-Ohio which places a very close 2nd to Road Atlanta. I've run Barber, Autobahn, Gateway Intl., Putnam Park, Heartland Park, Hallett, Blackhawk Farms and Road America as well.
In my eyes, Road Atlanta was the funnest. If one sits on small pieces of coal for several laps, notbably turn 12, you can offer your significant other a nice collection of diamonds afterwards. ![]() Feff |
