1999 Key Question - Esprit - LotusTalk

Does anyone know if my key is just a Laser cut key or if it has a transponder in it? If it's only Laser cut my local locksmith can make me a spare if not its a drive to the dealer.... (1999 Esprit TT)

Really appreciate all I am learning in this Forum. Hope, down the road to help other newbie Lotus owners. One thing I can contribute is that there is a guy on ebay selling a cobra fob that definitely works. It was easy to program on my 1999 Esprit TT.

The key can only be ordered from Lotus through a dealer. You'll need to provide the VIN and proof of ownership. They're milled keys and require fairly special hardware to cut. The key does not have a RFID chip in it.

I don't know about your key but I have brand new Cobra fob/remotes with a 12 month warranty for $89.
