IMO in 2011 536hp will be common place for most super cars... by then im guesstimating that 650hp would be just right
unless the Esprit weighs in at around 3000lbs

At LOG, Roger Becker stated that the engine for the new Esprit could be either a V8 or V10. The new platform is designed to accommodate either.
![]() Which one has not been decided nor has Lotus committed. (He was definitely asked about the BMW engine.) One thing that is holding up the selection of engines is future EU emissions laws, specifically carbon emissions. With all manufacturers having to reduce CO2 emissions by about 20% in 2010 - 2011, a big CO2 emitter might make the Esprit non-salable in Europe...

...i think toyota engines are great and would love to see lotus stick with them just to demonstrate it being a viable long-term partnership...that might be a difficult proposition to sustain as long as lotus remains a subsidiary of proton, though...

I would like to see Lotus getting new Toyota engines before Toyota. Toyota would get the benefit of a whole flock of test drivers and Lotus would get the latest and greatest. After an engine has been available for a year in a Lotus; Toyota could then offer a detuned version in their cars. Think of it a Toyota with a "Lotus" engine rather than the other way around.
