Engine issues in 2000? - LotusTalk

I recall there were some issues with the engine in 1997 - don't remember what and my search didn't solve it. Maybe Nikasil liners or something.

Anyway, if there was a problem, when was it corrected?

Is there a certain mid-year point of the 2000 model that they changed something?

V8 Liner Problems

Change from Hylomar to Loctite corresponded to some cylinder liner sealing issues, so they switched back to Hylomar.

The switch was made in June 2000 with engine serial number 30600.

There were also issues on the early V-8's that got shipped with single plate clutches. They were all supposed to be changed out for the twin plate clutch.\

I'll have to respectfully disagree. My engine is number 30603 and my car was built in March 2000.

Well, Kevin what can I say!

The LEF quoted those dates and serial numbers, But I recently got my Certificate of Provenance from Andy Graham of Lotus, and it also states that my car was manufatctured on April 3rd, 2000 with engine number 30616, so there! I hope thay at least got the serial numbers correct!

I have bragging rights.... I have a copy of the build book for mine... from my first visit to the factory for a tour in 2006. Engine number is handwritten on the first page, as is the gearbox number. Some interesting details contained therein. Nowadays, the certificate of provenance is all you can get... been back to Hethel twice and still can't get a BB copy for the Elise, will have to settle for the cert for the Elise ;-(

Good to know the info on the changes. Mine is a June 9 manufacture date with serial number 30655

I recently purchasded the V8 Esprit with engine number 30600! The mechanic who did the pre-purchase inspection said that if the cylinder liners hadn't leaked by now they were probably OK (or had been fixed in the past), so I took a gamble on it.

Just curious, how did you find this piece of infomation?

I believe that info came from Bibs at thelotusforum from talking to the factory.

The apparent discrepancy may be due to the TSB being issued in June 2000 (TSB 2000/3) but the build change occurring earlier with engine 30600.
