I feel sick!!!

My best friend must sell his 04 Esprit due to financial duress. He is about to let it go for just $75,000! Thing is - this Esprit has only about 7000 miles, race E.C.U., hollowed cats & original cats, A.R.P. studs, New forged pistons, ect, and it is Burgandy in color with tan interior & piping. It is also perfect.
But. . . this is what makes me sick - on the inside of one of the air box covers in handwriting, it says "last of three"
I called Lotus myself to check its serial # It "IS" THE SECOND LAST ESPRIT EVER PRODUCED!!!!! And I can't afford to buy it.
This is NOT a joke!!! This is the same guy with the Noble M400 I have written about (That's for sale too!!) That damn Esprit is worth at least $150,000+ Did I mention:

I AM SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no offense, but it doesn't make much sense.
if it's really worth $150k, then someone out there would be willing to spend that much on it, or at least $100k.
If he's so financially strapped, I'm sure he'd want to sell it for the most he can get for it on ebay or something.

I'd feel pretty sick too if I had to try to unload a $50k car for $75k-$150k.

Engines blow up, but nobody does it on purpose...............

We have a 2004 Black final edition (3500 miles) in our showroom for $74,900. His asking price is dead on.

Thanks. I was not asking for advise on what it is worth or trying to state its worth
That is what a wealthy person he knows has offered him, His current position means that he will need to take it. The fact that his Esprit has a $16,000 motor upgrade and its the 2nd. last Esprit ever made should make its potential collector value significant to the right person. (someone like myself who appreciates these phenominal cars)
And Fish - "Nobody blows a motor on purpose"?? If I wanted to do that, I would remove the oil and hold my foot to the floor in nutral!! Um... I "EXPECTED" it probably would let go under the conditions I was running it. But it "could" have suprised me (would not have been the first time it did something I did not believe that it could!)
Besides, I'm still driving my other one until my black one gets back better than ever!

Just justifing the asking price to the many doubters on the thread.

Actually, in terms of a "collectors item" the modifications ruin its collectability. And for the street car market in general, any modifications lower the resale value.

Sorry, the collector value of any particular Lotus really isn't anything special. It's a Lotus, not the last of any prized, unique car that might be worth something slightly more (like the last AC Cobra, or GT 40). Being the first, or the last, or any particular special edition of a Lotus just makes it another Lotus - one with a interesting fact about it, but nothing special.

Unfortunately.

This comes from some with a really special, unique, rare, and unusual Elan Sprint. It's still just an Elan with a different paint job, and worth no more than a regular Elan of the same year.

I also know all about the Lotus market as it exists at this time. But try to get a car as visually seductive, as rare, admired & as fast as the Esprit for anywhare near $150k. . . you cannot.
Smart investors do NOT buy things at the height of their value! I believe the Esprit V8 will get the recognition it deserves in the future. Perhaps I am incorrect? But. . . I have a pretty good record so far. If I lose financially, I still win with the enjoyment these great cars have provided me!!

Hook me up with your dealer, you're smoking some good stuff.

The brand new one at the local dealer went for a bit less than that. Asking and getting are two different things.

If the one on your showroom sells to an individual within 90 days for over $70k, fax me a notarized copy of the title paperwork showing the dollar amounts (black out the names and VIN) and I'll call a liquor store up there and buy you a case of beer.

PM for my fax number if it happens.

If you get $150k for it, I'll buy the case of beer, come up there, and detail your personal car while you kick back in the shade, enjoy the beer, and snap photos to post here.

Say Codes, Why do your posts have a tone to them as if the Esprit V8 in "not worth" over $100k? What they sell for at this time is due to "other market factors" NOT the cars themselves!! The cars "ARE WORTH" more than $100k, what the current market will bring is a bit different.
The truth is; a 1970 Chevelle 454SS is NOT WORTH $200 to $500k nor is a 1969 Shelby GT-500!! and the people paying that for them are the fools, those paying $75k for a final edition 04 Esprit are the intelligent people who will be rewarded.
Maybe it's a good idea to invest in Gold right now - almost $700 an ounce.
OR,
Like me - you would have bought it about 6 years ago. about $240 an ounce.
Be smart, buy a good Esprit V8 or a home out in Southern California. Try the Temecula area.
