Jeff, if you can find an 04 for under 60k then let me know.. please post it here too
you can get a 02 in the 50's and a 98-01 in the 40's yes.. I'm not disagreeing with that.. but if you think ebay is a way to judge the used value of a car and it's as accurate as autotrader your smoking crack.. many of the killer deals are BS on ebay.. maybe after 3 years the luster will wear off.. but isn't that just as possible in a ferrari or lamborghini? I've driven them and after a day I wanted to never drive it again.. It's a sports car dude, it's not the end all be all it's a fun diversion/toy/hobby for people that's it.. in a few years , I might deciede to trade it in.. if I do it doesn't mean I don't like the car or anything.. it just means I am ready to move on or in a different mood.. If it's difficult to sell so be it, it's a specialty exotic car and I would assume it's not the easiest thing in the world to sell.. so what? I still will NEVER regret owning it or the experience of having one.. and I agree with Kirk that a good condition esprit is worth far more than an average condition esprit.. and in the end that is what will get you the better price. I still don't see where your know it all ego/attitude comes from.. I assume your anus but I can't be sure.. |

There's your problem dude, you just can't resist getting a dig in.
My attitude stems from precisely what I have been saying all along -- unrealistic "Esprit love" causes a lot of these cars to end up in the wrong hands. Just chill some, and be real when you talk about these cars, and we are all good. I'll let the 26 psi boost and stuff go, you guys mod all you want. I have, and others have, told you what is going to happen. We'll see who is right down the road I guess. Last point on Esprit values. You are absolutely 100% incorrect that cars.com and autotrader are good reference points for Esprit values. I told you, those guys on there are guys who have unrealistic hopes of what their cars will bring. The number you see on autotrader is THEIR idea of the car's value, and it will be high. What these cars go for is far, far, far less. The 04s have held up mainly because there are not many of them, there are not many for sale, and most are recently purchased. SOME OF THESE CARS SAT ON LOTS NEW UNTIL THIS YEAR BECAUSE THERE IS NO MARKET FOR THEM. In a few years, no more than ten, an 04 Esprit will be of little more value than an S4s. At some point, they will start going back up. When? I don't know. I can just tell you that the usual supercar "crowd" doesn't think much of Esprits and that is why there is no market for them. Most every article you read on Esprits has some sort of tag line like "Esprit: The Bargain Supercar!" I hope I can resist posting on this thread again.....really tiresome. I do hope you have fun with your cars. Just don't put a bunch of BS up here that causes some poor soul that hasn't done any research to buy one. |

FYI:
For sale red 1994 Lotus Esprit . It just clocked 80,000 Miles on the Odometer 70 % left on the tires (Kuhmo) EBC Brake Pads, with Cross Drilled Front Rotors from JAE. Electric Charge Cooler Pump just added (Davis Elec Pump) Complete Custom Audio Kit. Recent recarpet to the interior. 2000 V8 Rear Diffuser, with the orginal S4 rear Valance as well. K&N Filter installed since purchase. Recent "C" Service done by Knucklehead Enginnering (Jacksonville FL) DVD available. All new hoses from JAE ready to be installed, and still in the box. Braided SS Brake Lines. Braided SS hose for Clutch from JAE. 18,000 (negotiable)and its yours. I will make the delivery to you if your in the FL, GA, KY, TN, SC,IL, MO areas and are along my route to Springfield IL. That's where the V8s that last that long are headed price wise in 10 years. I guarantee it. That S4 NEW was nearly as much in 1994 as a brand new 04 was in 2004. My 93.5 window sticker was $82k, and it took Lotus TWO YEARS to sell the car off the lot. The Esprit market is very, very small. |

What you said in the last post Jeff, is exactly why I have done what I did to my Esprit and why I take it to the track & post what my results are. Because many people have little respect for the car. But after they go up against mine - They have a whole new found respect for the Esprit V8
I try it first on my cars then show others just what these cars can do & how to do it! (look at thread "lotus at 26psi") Ask anyone who has been in my car or run against it what it is worth. I WILL change peoples opinion Others will too with my help in time. I think less than 10 years - 5 or so.

Now Jeff, that's not a fair example of what a 94' S4 is worth. That car has a few miles for an Esprit and I'm sure has issues that go along with it. Hence the price. If it was a cream puff it would be at least 10k more. Hell, NADA value is still 37k (high book anyways).

Mike, you are right. That is a very high mileage example, and a good S4 still ought to go for $25k -$30k. You agree?
Kirk, I will agree with you on this. The V8s never got "figured out" like the 4 pots did, at least not until lately. With the 4 pot, there were a variety of levels of chip available at different levels of risk, brake kits, all kinds of things that were completely sorted. I think because of two things -- the early "liner" issue and the fact that the V8 was just not that much faster (initially!) than an S4s, the V8s did not get a lot of respect. I'll be honest, I kind of pooh pooh'ed them I'm open minded enough to wait and see what you guys do with them. I do think that 26 lbs of boost on a non intercooled car is a recipe for disaster, but , please, do prove me wrong. Have fun at Lime Rock. I'm at VIR the following week in my "stupid" car. I have a weird fetish for TR8s, and have spent years and $$$$ building one into a semi-competitive SCCA ITS race car. So I understand passion for a marque, trust me..... |

Yes, it is a DISASTER on a 90 degree day especially without 109 race fuel! You must be very carefull!!!
I want to make some money here - I'll promote a U.F.C. style fight; Young vs. Stallion. We can probably sell enouph tickets and get enouph sponcers so that all of us can get a new Esprit at the current prices. ![]()

Agreed on the 25k-30k price range for an S4. This is a situation where the car is not "worth what the someone is willing to pay" but "what the current owner is willing to let it go for". With the current book values being what they are the fact that even mint condition examples are going for low book value seems to support this theory.
I will be at Lime Rock Park on the 19th so I will be there when Kirks V8 oils the main straight. Watch out for the little blue Exige when I lap you Esprit boys, at LRP big hp won't help you! ![]()

Naw, I'm too old to fight.
How about checkers, best two out of three? MIKE -- blue Exige here! I'm Nightfall blue. You? LRP should be about the perfect track for those cars. There's an ITA Miata (Andy Bettencourt) that runs 1:01s there, just a couple of seconds off what the Speed World Touring cars do. I always thought my Exige was a bit like a Spec Miata that rotated better and had 60 more hp. |

I'll tell you what - since I have never been to that track (nor have I had the S2 on any track) so I will follow you around with the S2 to learn the track. Then, about mid-way threw the second session... Don't forget to give the required "point by" or I'll just have to go by. by. now. This should be good as my S2 is very fast (faster than my sport 190) & I can drive fairly well.
If the Esprit's gearing is decent for this track (its great at Laguna Seca) it will be goonnneeee... I look foward to seeing your car, it looks great in the pics! You'll see me - I'll have a red monster truck with a 48 foot trailer and a black Esprit & artic silver Elise inside. By the way I'm moving to the Pocono's in 2 months (5 min. from the track) so, let me know of any trackdays up there. Jeff, have fun at V.I.R. I look foward to getting on that track too.
