LRP is a very short (near 1 minute lap times), momentum track. Much more suited to an Exige/Elise than an Esprit, but your power should of course help you. Should be interesting how that pans out.
If you have a high HP car, VIR will be a lot of fun for you. Two very long straights, plus the uphill esses (done at 115 or so in the Exige, probably 10-20 mph more in a higher hp car with stick). Stallion --> time to just ignore each other. You have fun with your car. See ya. Mike: Oh yeah, I've got two planters I mean parts cars sitting in a storage yard. People forget, Triumph made 100,000 of those suckers (and only 2200 TR8s). Lots of rusted 7s around that people will give to you. I take'em, take the strut tubes, trannies and rear axles and such and then move on. |

Sounds like Fontana, No fun for the Esprit (big time in between 2nd & 3rd.) but I still hung in with the Elise's but 1 big gap... then I close on brakes & streights. Just not fun - specially working hard the tranny! Perhaps I will save it for V.I.R. and that cool black "under seige"
Thanks for the "heads up"!! ![]()

Stallion? Is it the rear main? If so, you need to replace that right off. It could oil up the clutch, and no. 2 (and more important) with the added boost you are running it could be a sign that compression is getting past the rings and pressurizing the crankcase.
Get it checked. |

Haha..
the leak is pretty minor, it's in the shop getting spidercracks fixed and buffed now.. I will have the seal looked at again, according to the lotus guys and my mechanic it's just an old seal that needs replacing.. nothing to do with the added boost.. remember I have not done anything to my wastegates yet.. all I have is the Johan chip.. anyway, both lotus and my main guy seem to think it's too minor to bother doing until I have to redo the clutch.. that being said I might do it sooner than that just for the peace of mind.. |

I honestly do not remember, I just noticed a few drips here and there and then I remembered when it was in for the A service they mentioned it had a minor leak but it wasn't important or dangerous..
my mechanic also looked at it 2 weeks ago and told me to just watch the leak and check oil level and wait.. I "think" they said it was the rear main seal but I will verify this again when the car is in the shop.. Kirk was under the car and also noticed some oil underneath, but I do not think he spent any extra time to try to extrapolate the amount.. to put it in perspective.. at the track (poconoos) they let the car race even though there were bikes out there even w/ a leak.. they felt it was that minor that it was safe even sharing the track w/ the superbikes.. In any case we will see I will find out for certain what is leaking.. |

It is very minor & it may be comming from the lines running to/from the front oil coolers. I recomend to just clean it off and then it should be easy to locate.

I just want to know how you are keeping the torque-to-yield head bolts from stretching and keeping the pistons from holing out with that much (26PSI) boost on a set of cast pistons. The guys who raced the Esprit V8 in
Grand-Am Cup had constant head gasket problems when trying just over 16PSI on the Esprit V8 engine not to mention they had to rebuild the engine with forged pistons, ARP head studs and fabricate an intercooler (with Garrett's assitance) because the added boost was creating heat-soak issues. How did you overcome all this on a stock engine? Feff |

I overcome those issues with temprature & duration. That is; with the lack of it. If the car is going to a "road course" I too will only use about that much boost. I will only use that much rarely and when it is cold (read under 60 degrees) outside. Also, I keep the revs. up & use good race fuel. I simply have never had gasket problems
. I will use ARP studs & forged pistons when it goes but... I have 18,000 miles on it and it runs as good as ever Mario Andretti rarely broke his race cars either, could be a driver thing ![]()

Kirk, that's the thing that really cracks me up. You are saying that you, as Supreme High Driver of the Wild, Wooly Esprit, control your BOOST by driving in such a way that everyone else who has tried to run at your boost levels grenaded their motors? Uh, ok.....
P.S. - Mario blew up lots of cars, LOTS of them. |

Now Jeff... Don't get personal here. I am only telling the facts that I have personally experianced. I have also said exactly how I do it. 1) I rarely go to 26psi. (never for extended periods) like on a road course or in even warm tempratures. 2) I always use race gas. 3) I keep the revs. up (do not give full throttle in 4th. uphill @ 1800 rpm's) 4) If you feel the car loose power (as I have experianced) GET OUT OF THE THROTTLE! it is detecting detonation & pulling out timing! I do not claim to be the best driver ever but... I am intelligent and one of the better Esprit drivers out there. Lets not insult, we were able to get past that & I hope to enjoy some track time with you in the future. Maybe I can change your mind and some others too about just what these cars can do.
