Elan roll bar - LotusTalk

Question for Elan owners with a roll bar (Tim Mullen , Mopho, etc.): What exactly is the roll bar mounted to? I know there is a central spine to the car, but what locates the outer hoop? Is it a large sub-assembly that routes the outer bars to the central spine? Just asking for curiosity's sake.
