Weren't you considering selling the 67 Elan last summer? Maybe it was the summer before. I remember emailing you about it. Ken

Yes, in 05, I had no place to store it or use it, so the car was just sitting at my folks house

Since moved to LA and decided to keep it. Really glad I changed my mind, now it gets used a lot.

Did the person that wanted an Elan get one?

I will have a great one here shortly. My old Elan. Beautiful car.

Funny that this thread popped up. There is a guy here locally that has a "beautiful" Europa S2 that I've been pondering. Says he will probably sell in about a year or 2. Almost completely stock w the Renault drive train. As w other Europas it has been painted numerous colors over its lifetime;was Pistachio but now red. He even tracks it. I'm over 6'2" and can barely fit in the damn thing but still....

I've always wanted an Elan. Had several type 54 Europas, a couple of Elites ('70s ones) a Lotus Cortina and now the Elise.
I had a chance to buy a very early S1 RHD Elan for next to nothing many, many years ago. Didn't have the original engine (I think it was a stock pushrod engine) and the fairly new paintjob was just fair.
Still wish I would have gotten it.

I also missed out on a formula junior (or whatever it was- I forget the exact model now, one of the tube frame ones) for $1500 with spares and a trailer! Should have bought it, but I was visiting friends in my Europa and didn't even have a job at the time...

Maybe one day an Elan will come my way. But rght now I don't have the space, time or cash for one. Too many other toys!

I had an early Elan and loved it - but you've got to be prepared for the maintenance... Not that I've owned an M100, but I'd assume it'd be a bit less maintenance.

But IMO... the early Elan wins hands down.

I don't know if I would go that far the M100 can be a real pita to work on; it also has a bunch of complicated bits that are of Rube Goldberg caliber, that always have to be messed with.

Main thing I absolutely love about the Elise. Me and friends did a coilover swap; took about a leasurely 2 hours to do, over a couple of beers and in the hot sun no less. They were astonished on how easy it is to do work on it.

What do you want to do with it? The we can recomend one. Drive NYC to LA, commute in DC traffic I would go M100. Nice Sunday drives in the country, track days, p*ssing off your fellow commuters orginal Elan.

You could have both for less than 1 Exige.

Well, I will tell you the type of driver I am.

I drive for fun and for fun only. I never see driving as a chore. It's always a joy for me. Traffic? I'm used to it.

I'm a very aggressive driver and yes, you can say I piss my fellow commuters off quite frequently. I'm as high strung as the cars I drive.

From my little research I've done, the early Elans were RWD and the m100s were FWD...

I love the looks of the m100 (but, who cares about looks?) but I've never had a FWD performance car. How different is it?

East to drive without getting into too much trouble. M100 is very fast, good usable torque. For driving in poor conditions its hard to beat. Steering feels a little disconnected, since it has power assist. By Lotus standards it is an excellent daily driver.

I like the looks too. The wide squat lines, with the pop up headlights...looks like a big frog

I read that when the US placed stricter standards on emissions, the m100 became much slower due to catalytic converters being placed.

Truth?

I apologize for jacking this thread.. I should start a new one.

No, same as the Non US SE version both 0-60 ~6.5 seconds. I believe there is a Fed ECU that is retuned for the US market. Charliex..you around?

I dont know about that.

I had an M100 with a cleaned out Precat and a Cat Eliminator pipe (which I still have would love to sell) and when I boosted up the turbo pressure (easy to do)...man..that car was fast. Much faster then my other two Elans that were set up the same way but with full cats.
