muhahaha.... muuuuhaaahhhaaaa!!!!

After 8 months, we finally got the Twin Cam back from the builder and got it dyno'd. It made a bit more power than the 150hp target

171.7 hp @ 6190 rpm
150.0 ft/lbs torque @ 6000 rpm
Car is 1440lbs!

Should be going back in the car tomorrow, then a bunch of little details over the next couple of weekends. Hopefully will be back on the road by Labor day (fingers crossed)

Hey Morgan,
Fantastic news. That little beast is going to own the canyons. So what's the official power to weight ration now? Great job can't wait to see it in action.

Sufficient

I think that works out to be about 8.4lbs per horsepower, should be pretty quick

Thanks, but the only credit I can take is being able to save up the money to pay someone to do the work

Holy thread from the dead Batman!

Yeah, the car has been on the road about 5 months now, already just about gone through a set of tires, car is just too much fun!!!
It's pretty quick, probably as fast as an Elise in certain gears, but it's a 4 speed and doesn't have the greatest of ratios.
Engine was dyno'd with custom headers and no exhaust, so I am probably losing a bit of power with the headers/exhaust I have on the car, but I am having a new set up made pretty soon, so should help a lot

The special trip home had nothing to do with the engine though, unbeknownst to me, the hydraulic line for the clutch was rubbing against the housing and after six years it finally burst. I already fixed it and have been back on the road

There is nothing like owning an Elan to make one appreciate the Elise/Exige. I had to replace my cylinder head because of casting erosion (race head - bad casting). A good used bare head was $2,000, and the machining and parts (including cams) to prepare the head were an additional $4,700. This is for a 175 hp engine. Good competition engines run $15,000-20,000, but even a full rebuild of a strictly street engine will run $5,000-10,000.

Even more tangible, is the fact that with the big Webers and conventional distributor ignition, Elans spend a lot of time being tuned.

While mine is not a race car, it has a regular distributor and Dell'ortos (Webers for many years), and it rarely needs tuning.

In racing tune it seems that we spend a lot of time tuning. Mind, I'm not complaining, I love my little Elan, but the Exige is much more of a a grab and go car.

I would love to grab one and go! Heck, even a ride in one would rock.

True, I have a whole procedure I go through before taking my car out, but it is a toy for me, so the procedure adds to the fun by making it more of an event

Oh, mine was more than that, and I did not even have to replace the Pistons, rods or crank
