3 days of raining on the Evora

Since I had been sick for the past week, I didn't drive my Evora and thought it'd be okay in the rain (not super heavy). NEvertheless it added up.

I got to my car this morning and found that the trunk carpet was moist, and all of my towels which I use to wipe down my car were wet. Fortunately, the towels soaked up the leak as it came into the trunk.

Opened the driver side door to have water pour out from inside the door. The leather on the sill closer toward the hinge had bubbled. This part of the leather was exposed to the water that was dripping into the car.

The driver floor mat was completely soaked. Lifting it, you can see the puddle form. Fortunately the puddle area was contained to just the area where the floor mat sits, and not the raised carpeting or anywhere else in the vehicle. To remove the water, I took out the soaked floor mat which is extremely spongy, and rolled it up to wring out the water. Stuck it back in the car to soak up the rest..

Fortunately this was only on the driver side. Passenger door didn't leak so I was spared on that side.

Note to self--do not leave my Evora in the rain, at least not without the cover (which I bought primarily to keep the sun off the car).

That stinks, but is no suprise on this car. The glue that holds all that down does seem to reattach when dry. My passenger side had the same issue, but I thought it was from an AC drainage line at first.

Total bummer! Anyone else find it really funny (read: sad) that a British car leaks in the rain so badly?

What's your build date? Have you talked to the dealer yet?

I find it inexcusable that any modern car -- but especially a modern car at an Evora's price point -- floods in rain. The irony of the English failing to build a rainworthy car is amusing, but only when it's not your car.

Unhappy

Sad to hear the news Squidward. So Lotus still hasn't fixed the leaking issue. I remember when I first got wind of this problem on one of the UK Forums, the poster was suggesting that there was a common problem of the early builds. One of the things I've been looking for is to see if they had fixed the problem before sending over the pond. Lotus got hammered for this issue in the UK.

My Exige leaks as well. Not to the same extent, but my floor mats are soaked through. I'm bringing it in on Tuesday for other warranty issues, and let them know that it's leaking like a sieve. I'll let you know if they discover a generic reason that might be affecting both of us.

One would think the English might be capable of building a leak-proof car considering how much it rains there...

I just hope mold doesn't form in the trunk, since the foam backing under the carpeting was soaked also. It's very high density foam so you really can't get the water out.

The wet trunk area problem has been reported before on this forum:

Leaky engine hatch

Lotus has a Technical Bulletin out to fix this issue, which seems to affect some of the early models.

If someone has the TB with the relevant info to share, we could check our cars before getting our trunks wet.

Probably.. but water in the engine bay is by design, since the engine bay is exposed to rain through the open meshes just above it... I wonder how much water has passed through my engine bay in 4 straight days of rain.. gallons.

There's a large air duct that points upward towards the vent on left side. I wonder where all that water went...

Is your Evora Lazer Blue (or one of the Evora Blues). I was driving to a party last Sunday and an Evora was parked right off of the south side of the 101 at the Tujunga exit.

It was pouring and I freaked out because I've never seen one in person. After stopping and staring for awhile I drove off wondering if it would have water leakage.

no, mine is burnt orange. I've not encountered any Evoras yet on the road, although I saw a brand new silver one on a rainy day a few weeks back parked in a tiny strip mall in Santa Monica.

Oh damn... The dealer should fix it all up. I mean should like it is something they need to step up for, not should like "oh, don't worry they will fix it"

BTW, he had way too much cantonese accent... But his black gangsta accent was spot on... And FYI, his "Vietnamese" is actually just gibberish hehe.

I have had major problems with mold in my Jag since it got waterlogged. Better get that carpet and foam out and dryed asap (especially any carpet that got wet inside the car) or the car will stink for months.
