The Evora's chassis is 26,000 Nm per degree, which is exceptionally stiff. It's roof is a stressed structural member, which really helps. The Elise is stiff, but not that stiff (IIRC, it's 17,000 Nm per degree, but I could be wrong on that one).

I don't think this is correct.

I have read somewhere that the roof is indeed a structural member, and that the body skins are employed as stressed structural members too.

The roof and body skins are fiberglass, like the Elise, and are not designed to be structural. The Evora's chassis is similliar to the Elises having a bonded aluminum tub. However, the Evora has separate front and rear subframes that can be replaced. For rollover protection Lotus adds a roll bar to the central tub, just like an Elise.

Here's a picture of the Evora chassis:

I remembered reading it in the extended engineering version of the press release:

"The Lotus Evora employs a composite roof as a stressed structural member to give an exceptional vehicle stiffness of 26,000 Nm per degree, thanks in part to the seatbelt anchorage frame's secondary function as a roll over structure, and partly because the high-tech composite body panels are stressed items. However, despite this high stiffness, the complete chassis and modules weight just 200 kg (prototype weight), helping to keep the weight of the whole car to just 1350 kg (prototype weight)."

I'd guess they somehow mate the composite roof structure to the aluminum chassis with one of their now-famous glues. Imagine how expensive that will be to fix in the event of an accident!

Yeah, that's what I read. MickOpalak what say you?

Dunno. I was just going on what I remembered from Roger Becker's presentation at LOG 28. He put up slides of the chassis and I don't remember him mentioning the body being structural. Perhaps when they mention the 'roof' being structural they're referring to the roll bar?

Rollovers and such are always expensive.
