Evora makes Jalopnik's 10 Worst Engine-Car Combinations
#3 on the list!
The Ten Worst Engine/Car Combinations I think its a bit unfair, its true the Evora isn't the fastest bang for the buck, but the engine is powerful and reliable. |

i've said it before, and I'll say it again. jalopnik is not a car site; it is an entertainment site. It is run by Gawker. They like to be provocative, are often funny, and always want their audience to believe that the auteurs are all part of a big inside joke that the readers aren't.

I agree Jalopnik is more for entertainment, but they have a point. I would guarantee that Lotus would have sold many more Evoras if they had 400+ hp, regardless of who makes the engine. But no they start them with 276 or so... Hard to justify it at that price point!

jalopnik is a Gawker media site ( think "The Inquirer" for the internet). I know it is bad, but when someone starts quoting jolopnik I "pre-discount' what they are going to say.
usually a bunch of 17 to 25 year old kids who live at home and drive their Moms Camry to their job at "Pizza World". Dream car is alway a Veyron or some other unattainable douche car. Racing is tromping as hard as they can on the accelerator of their 1994 Civic on public roads in traffic. sorry, did I mention I hate Jolopnik ![]()

The mantra of " no replacement for displacement " wears pretty thin after a certain point. There are many cars out there that give tons of torq and HP for less, but than again that is the easy part. Make a car handle, then you got something. |

I have to side with oldmansan on this. Don't discount power because you don't feel the need for it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the cayman R cheaper, faster and handles just as well as the Evora S.
Why not go with that one?

With the Komotec upgrade the Evora S engine just feels and sounds right for the car.
Don't care if it's also used in the Camry.

Evora makes Jalopnik's 10 Worst Engine-Car Combinations
Every automaker has to deal with nonsense like this. Lotus uses Toyota parts...Porsche, Audi...Bugatti...VW. Ferrari being owned by Fiat. It will never end. I buy what I want and ignore anyone who's name isn't on my checks. :-).
Who cares about engine-car combo? I guess there are some that do....it's posted here. Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App |

I wouldn't hate on Jalopnik too hard. I wouldn't take them seriously, but as an entertainment site they have some great articles. The above comments about the Jalopnik demographic is spot on, but they are real car guys too. The coverage of cars in the tv show Archer was great, as was the article about the kid in Cali who built his own RX7 V8.
Also, at least a few of the contributors there are big Lotus fans. References to 'adding lightness' are in many articles. This article was one of the 'reader sourced' jobs, where suggested cars came in via the comments. The Evora is a great car, I wouldn't trade mine for the world, (maybe an Alfa 4C?) but the engine being weak compared to the car's price point is legitimate debate point. |

The Delorean is definitely a first-place choice -- awesome looks (for its era) and absolutely tepid engine. I vote the Lincoln/BMW Diesel second. I borrowed one from my BMW mechanic once. It couldn't out-accelerate a bicycle. Even BMW dropped its version (524TD) after about one year. How about BMW 528e (1982-), also drastically underpowered compared to other 5'ers.

Has anyone ever read a car review where it didn't say, "we just wish it had a few more ponies," or " this would be a great car, but at this price, there are other options to consider"? We all want a 4wd Ferrari with an auto box AND a manual, that sells for $25k, can be serviced at home, never has any problems, gets 40 mpg, can go up steep driveways, and beats any other car at the track, while seating 5 and having a big trunk, comes with a 10 year warranty, and goes up in value every day we own it. And Kate Upton in the passenger seat. My last 3 cars hp: 349, 450, 518, and now 189. And I've enjoyed every one for what it is.

Yet another retard, couch potato generation site. This whole HP thing is getting old fast. It is the ultimate mantra for the number crunchers that can't even drive in an inch of snow

Hmm, I'm very happy with the balance of weight and power. That is the brilliance in the design. I don't want or need more power and weight. Sure I could brag about more HP but really that's all I could do with it in normal daily life.
