and believe me, if you were selling a product, particularly a luxury item, you'd be all over the fact that a celebrity was interested in your product - and you'd tell everyone.

Celebrity endorsements are always welcome, and can cost millions.
George Clooney gets paid BIG bucks to do commercials for Honda - Japan)

So in todays economic times, companies are more than anxious to gain free publicity if a famous figure is photographed getting out of one of their cars.

It's not like Lotus is running adverts featuring those names, it's just a little press blurp from the sales dept to drum up a bit of interest.

the Evora isn't targeting the track crowd!
it's more boing touted as a luxury 2+2 (even the name suggest that!)
with enough trunk space for a set of golf clubs!
I couldn't disagree more about any publicity being good publicity. I make my living trying to make sure the publicity is the right kind of publicity.

I know the Evora isn't a track day car. It's targeting the Cayman and 911. However even people who would never track their car desire authenticity. Courting celebrities doesn't seem authentic to me. Perhaps I'm too much of a purist but I see th is as diminishing the Evora instead of enhancing it.

I cant say I agree with that...the espirt always seemed like random parts put together to make something. The evora actually looks nice inside. Now I don't have experience with espirt build quality but it seems to have issues from what I read.

I think the difference here is you can sit in a car all day and have it look and sound right. Lets see how many miles go on before it sounds like its going to fall apart or does fall apart.

Kinda like an elise or exige...hope Im wrong, because I want the new espirt to be rock solid.

Well, it's not light they can promote the amazing lightness, or the goobs horse power and torque, or the engine's racing pedigree.

Lotus is only making 2000 per year. They will have no problem selling out the first year and then in the second year, they will add the turbo. Demand may outstrip supply if Lotus delivers meaning profitability and trickle down money for development of the Exige/Elise/211.

Were you talking about a quality interior with the Esprit? That's what I was discussing. If so we'll have to agree to disagree here, I always thought the later model Esprits had a finely appointed interior. By far the best Lotus has put together to this date IMO.

i hope the evora is that car that some people expected when they bought an elise or exige and dumped it shortly afterwards because it was too spartan.

i think the celebrity market stuff is what it is, a means to an end, those who get 'it' probably don't care that much, but to those never having heard of the cars, it'll be an interesting selling point, more visibility.

I guess I was saying both interior and build quality. Its one of those things that you really want to see go well for Lotus since its geared at a certain crowd.

People with an elise or exige know its going to rattle or be testy as those are more of an enthusiast market that is expecting a raw experience. But like Charliex just mentioned I hope the evora is what they expect and hope it delivers.

So did Lotus ask for permission to release that info? Because if not they're about to loose all of those orders and probably be on the wrong end of a law suit from each of them.

I doubt this is accurate and that Lotus knows anythings about it.

is there like a privacy clause that would prevent them from dropping names like that, if so i doubt they would have done it

It's done all the time.

When new luxury condos or homes are sold to celebrities, you ALWAYS see their names on PR materials for the condo developer.

I have a good friend who is a "celeb", who bought one of two penthouses at a new downtown L.A. high-rise. (Wayne Gretzky was the other.) The developer used both of their names to lure other buyers into the building. It works.

I hope it works to lure new buyers to the Lotus brand as well.

Nice analysis amigo!

The publicity cost Lotus nearly nothing (other than perhaps some discounts to the celebs named) and will go far to lend credibility.
For those folks it's just the "flavor of the month" no?

If you recall it was these same Hooples that put Land Rover back on the map so many years ago.

I just want to see a Lotus in a new Bond film. Maybe the new Esprit, if it ever comes out. I think it would be fun, and good for the brand.

guess I'll retract the thing about ANY publicity, as bad publicity would definitely not be a good thing for a car manufacturer (good for D-list celebrities who want to get back in the public eye tho perhaps).

But if Lotus is going to target the 911 market, they're targeting Porsche buyers, which stereotypically can be described as badge-snob executives who just want to be seen driving their expensive european sports cars - not as track junkies. (seriously, when was the last time anyone saw a Porsche advertised as "never been tracked")

Anything to save Lotus from retracting sales in the US.. I don't really like driving 40 miles to get service in Los Angeles of all places! Hopefully, the publicity will improve sales and profit and we can all benefit from their success by having more dealers open up.

So I give them a +1 for free publicity.

^^^^ That's because most 911 turbos fit the mold you've described.... 996/997 GT3's on the other hand.....
