If the Evora comes in at the $70k price point, over the course of 5 years of daily driving/fill ups @ $4.50 a gallon, you'll still have substantial coin in your pocket compared to buying a Tesla. Better green, could be debated (remember, the Tesla isn't solar charged/power). Better performance? On a track I suppose, but then again the Evora with the larger cockpit/back seat (sure it won't fit adults) makes it more "practical" than a Tesla.

And no gas bill? Wait'll you see your electric bill

If you want to know about the engines current aftermarket group, look up the Lexus IS 350 car groups. They are the ones already steaming ahead in this engines upgrade department.

I believe the car is a great car but it's not fair to compare it to an elise or exige. The car is for a different market base. Just my 2cents

The problem with you figure is "5 years of daily driving/fill ups @ $4.50 a gallon" you left out the distance. 6 miles a day is a lot different than the 75 a day I do. Also "(remember, the Tesla isn't solar charged/power)." How could you possibly know that ? Have you been to my house ? You are aware that some people have solar panels right ? You are aware that electrical generation will probably be moving towards nuclear, wind, solar in the future.

The last time I did a comparison of traditional vehicle vs hybrid it was a Civic.
It was when gas was under $2. Figuring in the sticker price difference and my annual mileage at that gas price I would not hit the break even point for18 years, and the standard Civic was cleaner burning. But now gas is $4.50 and the Tesla is ZERO gas and ZERO emmison. I doubt it would take 18 years to hit the break even point. IIRC Tesla was claiming based on electrical bills that it gets in $ terms 135 MPG.

At any rate the Tesla and Evora would be drastically different experiences.
I've always been a Lotus fan. I've driven and owned Lotus. The Evora is certainly not your grandfathers Lotus. Big mistake.

I factored a weekly fill up, and I drive 70 miles a day. Using an Elise vs. a Tesla as an example, you still have plenty of money in your pocket. And I highly doubt anyone is buying an Evora as a daily driver. Sure, some will, but that's in the minority.

As for the solar powered comment, I'm glad you have solar power. 99.99% of residents do not. I'm all for alternate energy sources in the future, but I have to live in the now, not the future.

alternative energy sources like solar are here right now - its a choice, not a mandate.

Back on topic...

Michelle read the article about the Evora in Car and Driver and said 'Wow! That looks great! We should get one of those." C&D had it at $65K, so she thinks it's only 10/15K more than my Exige.

I'm thinking, "Wow, we could be a two Lotus family!", but then she says...

"It's probably a good time to sell your Exige, right?".

Nope... Never a good time to sell!

Agree completely. At my age (64) (and extra poundage) it's easy to get in and out of my M100 where the Elise would require a lift. ;-).

...i doubt we'll see a dealer-delivered federal evora before 2011; late 2010 at the earliest...

Although production will start in the fall of '09, some think delivery will happen by Dec. '09 however, a more realistic delivery time would be Jan./Feb. of 2010 as a MY2010.

That works for me since I'm committed for 32 more months.

Anyone know if the Evora S suppose to be out the following year as a 2011?

Now that you mentioned it, on the Evora forum (yes, the Evora forum), someone speculates that the Evora S may have problems meeting European emission standards:

I don't like it, but after seeing one in solid color where the door lines are not so pronounced - it is better.

Lotus Evora - True character in a faceless world.

I know what you mean. I love Canyon Red but seeing the Evora in Canyon Red really didn't do it for me. I like the Evora in titanium, silver or light blue.

I would rather buy another Exige with even more HP.

I don't understand why so many people here think the $70k is too high.

What do people think the new Exige's prices are?

My 2007 Exige S (2006 build date) had an MSRP of over $64k (track pack etc). So $70k seems about right.

I'm disappointed that it is as heavy as it is though.

I think some people think the Exige S' are price too high. Hence the $10K discounts at some dealers.

Seriously, the price is dependent on what's offered. If the Evora was $70K with 330 - 350hp or came in at 2,500 pounds, I think the $70K price would be reasonable.

The way I'm seeing it is the Evora is a Cayman/Boxster competitor (MAYBE and a big maybe the Audi TTS). That being said, I've seen Cayman with options going around high $60s to $70k. So, I won't say the Evora's outrageously overpriced but it doesn't see as enticing as the Elise or Exige S when they came out.

almost the same specs of a 350z. 3200 vs. 3000 lbs. 287 Hp vs. 280 Hp
This thing looks better than a Ferrari in my book. Reminds me of the 360 Modena.
You could also consider the new Gt-r in this price range.
