...i've no idea - that's well beyond my price range, and i've never particularly cared for ferraris, either...still, MSRP to MSRP is a fair comparison...

...used GTs, however, are quite easy to find in the $100k range in excellent condition...personally, i've come to appreciate that the new car experience is vastly overrated; i think it's a fantastic bargain to not only let someone else take the initial depreciation hit, but also to know from the outset what one's getting into with a well-sorted platform history...

After reading so much press about the new Lotus offering I'm becoming more and more depressed. Think of it as this though with the 2grfe engine you get to pump 87octane in your "gt" car. Least it looks good.

That would be almost 110k $, but I'm sure Lotus will offer a generous discount for US customers.
At $100K+, why would anyone buy it when an Audi R8 starts at $109K?

What makes you think Lotus didn't tune the engine for higher octane?

If you look at second hand offerings, as per autotrader only 36 Exige and 96 Elise cars in all of the US versus, 80 exige/192 Elise in continental europe, 22 exige/42 Elise in Switzerland (no Switzerland is not part of europe) and 71 exige/259 elise in the UK , which roughly speaking would put proportion at 80/20, so in line with Lotus sales projections not an exact science by any means. But would tend to indicate that while the US is an important market for Lotus it is not really that big, and therefore volume pricing cannot apply in the same way as Porsche/BMW.

As a matter of interest what is the price of a new Ferrari 430 your side of the pond ? because the US is a VERY important market for them, and it would be interesting to see their pricing , in Switzerland they retail for about 250'000 $ for the coupe.

And I do think the EUR/USD/YEN will enter the equation since the chassis is paid for in euro, the motor in Yen.
My point is that the price of Elises here changed as the exchange rate between the GBP and USD changed; fluctuations between the EUR and USD have not been reflected in the MSRP to my knowledge.

Show me where they are! I've been casually shopping for a used Gallardo for several months. 2004's start at about $120k. The few cars I've found below that are truly suspect.

If it does not sell under the $60K mark it will fail.... I really love the look, but once the novelty runs out you're left with a 3000lb 4.9 0-60 car with an average interior and small dealer network. How does it distinguish itself from the rest of the competition?? Unless it can outperform others in its class and have everything from heated memory electronic seats to highend audio and technology packages, etc.., than it can be justified at $70-$80K. Until then... it better be at BoxterS prices...

Here are some 2007 Porsche 911 under $68K. Things are only going to get worse for sports cars in the next year or two... This is a great time to buy...
The Evora has to make buyers look at almost new 911's and make them rather pay for the Lotus... If priced right, they might get the folks to buy Evora.. Let's hope!

Coo taking into account the about 10'000 $ for transport and paperwork and stuff their is a biz opportunity here ! and look at the Porsches they are all a good 40/50'000 $ less than equivalent here.

As for the gallardos but the problem with the Gallardo is that if you track it/drive it hard the clutch on the flappy paddle version only last 5000k and costs the best part of 6000$ to change wonder who much it is to change in the U.S. ?

Well instead of coming to the US with empty suitcase and coming home with clothes and stuff, I should charter a RO-RO and bring back cars

Not from my experience, you have to book several weeks in advance to get a container on a ship heading to Europe. Lots of goods moving East.

Less than 70K phew, , now I don't have to eat a scorpion sucker.

A Cayman S with just a couple of items gets up to 70K in a hurry.

Caveat, don't be when you put in your order specs, wait patiently, then a week before it arrives.. oooppss its now 75K

As mentioned before 70K does buy a Z06 Corvette; a not too shaby GT that weighs only 100 lbs more and can get 26 mpg on hwy. You have to really want those back seats and exclusivity whilst expecting Lotus to nail the handling, steering feel to give up 200 HP.

Hmm.. should start a poll on who's in.

From my piont of view it will be interesting to see how the pricing ends up in Canada. I was one of the first to get an Elise here, and at the time we got screwed on the price. They have come down over the last year or so, but with our dollar on par with the US$ most days, it will be interesting to see where the Evora falls in. At $70K, it's right in Exige territory here. Don't forget, that a Z06 'Vette was going for around $103K here for no apparent reason. I've seen new ones in the paper for under $80k now, so perhaps the market is evening out.

I still love my Elise. In Toronto I see at least one Lambo a day (not just the same one over and over) but I go weeks without seeing another Elise. I was at my dealership the other day, and as I was getting out of my car a Gallardo went by. I had just passed it parked on the street in front of the Jag/Aston/Bentley dearship on the same block, and as it went past screaming like a banshee after a 200' of acceleration, all I could think was "that thing should be shot". A beautiful piece of art, but where is it ever going to be driven at it's potential in North America. A Lambo here is like having a Great Dane in a condo.

Why shouldn't Lotus ask for £ 45k for the Evora when other people ask for £ 20k for the 'ultimate' Evora vanity plate?
