I know that, but the stated competition for the Evora is the Cayman so pricing it accordingly would be necessary, which was my point. FWIW, The Elise SC and the Cayman generally don't appeal to the same buyer. Same thing goes for the Elise SC and the Evora.

I don't see what the big issue over the pricing is... and I don't even see a direct competitor in its target price range. Sure the Cayman S may be there, and may be slightly ahead of it on specs, but with the Evora, you're buying exclusivity. Porsches are a dime a dozen in any major city, and most of the others as well. But how many Lotuses do you see out? Even in Houston, with over 4 million people, it's a very rare occasion that I see a lotus out. I see more F and L cars in fact!

If you want raw specs for the money, get a C6 Z06. Or an Atom .

But very few people looking at the Evora would even consider the Z06 on the same plate, and vice versa. Different audience, despite the similarity in pricing!

Likewise, anyone that wants the most creature comforts in a car for the ~80k or whatever won't be looking at Lotus either. They'll go for a Lexus or Benz and be grateful they did!

The Evora buyer will be someone with a fair amount of money that wants a performance car thats a little more unique, while still having some of the creature comforts of "the big boys" (even most super cars have infinitely more amenities than the Elise/Exige).

Personally I think the new design is gorgeous - and answers the two major complaints I have about my Elise. Torque and size.

Driving a small (read: tiny) car is fun, but I've always wanted the car to look a bit meatier, and less like a curvy kart. And torque has always been lacking. The Evora power to weight is almost identical to the N/A Elise, but with tons more torque. So the chief complaint will be answered!

That being said, if they release the "high performance" model specs within the next year and release it within a reasonable timeframe of the base model, I'll be switching my deposit over... Who doesn't like more power?

Thats the problem They need to sell the 280HP version for at least 18 months before the SC/turbo version is available.

I read (speculation ???) that the first 200 are loaded and are priced at £55k !

Wow, after reducing the VAT / taxes by same amount (25%) thats still $80,000+.. .. good luck Lotus.

Existing Lotus colour range and perhaps three more will be available to choose from, as are four leather colours.

Should a client wish to spec his/her own car then an order should still be placed with a £2000 deposit;The order will be progressed once the first 200 orders are confirmed, by which point prices will have been long announced, and perhaps dealers will have demonstrators.

Clients who deposited on an Elise early got the car early. At this dealership, some waited to drive, and consequently waited 18 months for the car to arrive! I'm not suggesting 18 months for Evora, but I can see this car being a popular choice nontheless. We are 30% of the way through our allocation already - luckily we have the most number of cars to supply.

With reference to model stretch, who knows when Lotus may release an auto, or indeed, a convertible? A letter of intent to a dealer is a good thing; once a communication has been released from Lotus Cars that they will release an alternative, the dealer should contact the client in the first instance, and an order with a deposit should see a confirmed place early on.

On the subject of orders, the official line is £2000 deposit sees a confirmed order place. It's not confirmed unless Lotus Cars are in receipt of £2000. The deposit is non-refundable by Lotus Cars. The dealer will have that car. The contractual relationship is between the dealer and the client however.

"saw the Evora today and loved it, if you want to get suitcases in the back and drive across Europe I think you can. If you need to kids in the back you can (not with the suitcase, in them maybe!). Getting in and out of the car doesn't look that bad, nothing like an Elise, however as close as I could get I was told no sitting in it. I was able to move the seat forward and fold it to see rear access and I estimate with me in it you could easily get an 11 year old buy in the back!! An adult would be a squeeeeeze.

Was surprised to hear the total cost of the car with all the options on it at £58k. Interesting list though, variable traction control, Launch control, forged wheels and reversing cameras(!), the list goes on. I have asked what it will do to the weight but can't really see much on here to add a great deal. Massive colour options, more than I thought, short listed Black, White, Orange and a candy apple red at the moment but could easily be swayed.

I was talking to a guy from engineering, who kept assuring me after every question I fired at him, he is confident of a sub 5 0-60 dash and that it will handle - like a Lotus.

Overall the car has presence, it is unmistakably Lotus, it is clearly bigger but not too big and will turn heads all day long and then some. If you add to this that I won't be seeing many others around you can see the reason I went for one.
