Attempt to steal Lotus...stolen ECU???

My neighbor has a friend in China who has an Elise, and he told me a very odd story...basically, his friend got robbed, and during the robbery they broke into his Elise. Somehow, they ended up stealing the ECU???

How would he go about replacing this, if at all possible?

That I'm not sure of...but seems to me if the ECU is gone, then the car is basically stolen? or can you replace it from the dealer?

And, just for technical reference, Lotus actually refers to it as an ECM, not an ECU.

WTS: One Lotus ECU. PM me for price and details.

(Just kidding, of course.)

This is WAY too targeted of an item to be stolen from a car. You might call around and see if anyone has contacted a dealer (or maybe look on local forums) about buying an ECU. Maybe we'll soon see 'knockoff' ECUs out of China.

Very odd, it's not like the ECU is to remove. There are several bolts and disconnecting is not easy if you don't know what you're doing. Cutting through all the wires wouldn't be easy either.

Sounds like an insurance scam. Something must have happened to the ECM and they didn't want to fork out the cheese to pay for a new one.

Yeah, that's true. It's WAY too specific for a 'random' robbery.

Although.... PatrickO travels to China quite often... The plot thickens!
