Calling CharlieX..."Dubai Special" Reflash for BWR SC?

Hi Charlie,

I know you're a busy man moving un all, but Lotus Talk seems to be the easiest way to ask you questions from this side of the world...

Any day now my BWR SC will arrive. I've bought via the Group Buy, so the PES reflash is optional. Based on communication with Fred, he suggested I contact you regards my ECU reflash, due to my "Dubai Special" requirements :

• My car was built July 2005, V.I.N. SCCPC11185HL34898, ECU Federal # C121E0001F. Overall it's a completely stock MY 2005 Federal Elise.

• However my ECU was revised by Lotus Cars UK in order to keep certain settings required in Dubai. Canadian spec. KPH Speedo, ACU cut-off at Wide Open Throttle was disabled , ACU cut-off at 6,000 rpm was raised to 7,000 rpm . Can you confirm these settings will remain after the ECU re-flash?

• I will install the BWR kit approx. 5KMs from my house... should I send the ECU off 1st, then once it's back drive it this short distance to fit the SC, or vise versa, could I install the SC, then drive it the short distance home with the standard ECU - I'd then not use it till the re-flashed ECU came back???

One last question, will the re-flash still be the one you originally developed for the Katana / Greddy kit....or will you develop one espically for the BWR SC? Whilst my car is completely stock at the moment, but I may add a 2bular 7 X 24 exhaust once the SC is installed...

Thanks for your reply
Sean

C121E0001F is the recent standard usa/federal program

the flash is replaced entirely, any customisations you have to it would have to be reapplied, either be my which would cost extra, take longer since i'd need the modified ecu and some time to look at it, and i wouldn't know how much til i saw what was changed, or by lotus

not recommended to drive it, trailer it, some people have driven them gently though, even in that distance its possible to damage something.

I've never seen a BWR car in person, so anyone buying a tune from that isn't going on a katana is buying it as-is, i hadn't really intended on doing them this much just helping a few guys out so i have done a couple of cars already since PES can't actually do them.

CharlieX,

Like the OP, I think there are quite a few of us on the GB from BWR that are waiting to decide about a tune until your move is complete and we have a chance to discuss it with you. I have a sport cat and larini exhaust and was interested in seeing if the tune could account for that as well.

If there is enough interest, are you willing to do a BWR tune? Do you think there is any benefit or danger from putting your Katana tune on a BWR supercharged car? I don't want to put a square peg in a round hole...

You can PM me if you like - I don't want to thread jack...

Thanks!

Matt

I should probably stfu, but I have this question I need to ask....

Why you guys, on the BWR group buy, that want Charlie's tune, didn't buy the VF SC or the Katana? Two products developped, in part, by Charlie?

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for your quick reply...sorry for my delay, I was travelling.

OK, I understand not to drive the car part converted and that your re-flash is not BWR bespoke, I'm OK with that.

However my "Dubai Special" settings are important, hence my interest in your reflash rather than PES. To go a bit deeper regards your reply :

1) KPH Speedo : Although I have a Frederal spec. car / ECU, would the refash convert to MPH, which I don't want? Aren't Federal cars also sold in Canada, where they also have KPH speedos?

2) Regards the ACU, the wide open throttle is probably more important than the raised limit from 6000 to 7000 rpm (but I'd like to keep both ). Asking Lotus to re apply this customisation is not an option. I realise you'd need my ECU 1st, however is the customisation cost completely open ended... in your experience will the cost (beyond the standard $600 reflash) be an additional $100 or $1000....

Thanks for your reply
Cheers
Sean
