The first batch in NOV of 2005 had several delays but were all delivered, since then we have had them in stock. The material and production expense of CF has continued to go up to the point that these parts are not possible to make at a reasonable price. After these are gone I dont expect to have more any time soon. We are down to three

Same reason people get CF center consoles among other things... it's really not that complicated.

I agree that it's a very nice looking product but it just seems so superfluous. Carbon fiber is the material du jour - and in two years all the folks who follow the trends (a "follower" - not a good thing in my mind) will eschew cf and get the "latest and greatest" material until the next fad comes out.

There's no performance benefit at all to this particular piece. It looks MUCH better than the stock piece but $200 for looks? Why bother? Personally, I'm not that superficial.

Or why they get the parts wrapped in leather. Plastic trying to look like metal (in this case) does not look so good. I painted my center console and was waiting because The Shop Indy was going to send me a surround, but I guess they changed their mind. Which is cool.

It just looks good. To me, one does not have to be superficial to want something to be aethetically pleasing. Is art superficial?

edit to add- Yes, I will agree that maybe the use of CF is a bit silly that this is not a performance thing... though CF makes more sense on other parts.

I do agree with you for the most part. This part does look MUCH better than stock - and you're right - one does not have to be superficial to want something to be aesthetically pleasing. CF seems like a little much for me for the surround (and almost a bit rice-y)...everyone wants CF everything now - even floormats (just kidding)...and it just seems a little ridiculous in CF for this part alone (not odd for body parts, for example, where significant weight advantages are measured)...but to each her/his own.

FYI, I painted my OEM part using a matte black, and I think it is a big improvement and well worth the 5 bucks or whatever the spray paint cost. It's not carbon fibre, but I couldn't justify the cost, so I went the paint route.

It looks fine, but also looks out of place in a way. Our interior is pretty cheap, except for the aluminum from the chassis showing (which is cool). But this part is so small, it almost doesn't look right. The center console I can see because it is a large continuous part, but this carbon AC surround part just puts a frame around a cheap looking out of place part that doesn't flow with the interior anyway. Does that make sense? However, if you like it (and I'm sure many do), then go for it; to each his own. I personally would rather redo the entire dash with the European one with Alcantara. I think that would be a nice look without the Rice, and also be a little richer while still being sporty. But in the end, I probably will not do any of this because none of this kind of stuff adds anything to the performance of the car.

If we have more of these made the selling price will be around $325-$350. Our first 50 were locked in at a price from our producer and these are the last of that deal.

We do have a few that need to be clear coated or polished or have other misc. imperfections that we would discount if someone has the capacity to do that type of work.
