San Francisco, CA. based SECANT Vehicle Engineering is offering integrated drivetrain replacement packages for Lotus Elise and Exige sports cars. The company will also offer Brembo brake upgrades and wheel/ tire packages

The GM based Ecotec 2.0 based Type I Supercharged package produces 280 HP @ 6600 RPM and torque to 241 lb-ft @ 4500 RPM. The Roots-blown four-cylinder reaches a maximum boost of 17 PSI.

For details, please visit the website: www.secantvehicles.com

Below is the company's press release:

SECANT Vehicles Introduces New Products for Lotus Vehicles

Type I Supercharged powertrain replacement package leads product offensive with Brembo® developed front brake systems plus wheel & tire packages

San Francisco CaliforniaFeb 27, 2008 – SECANT Vehicle Engineering LLC debuts new product offerings for Lotus vehicles. Products include complete powertrain replacements for all 2005-2008 Lotus Elise and Exige sports cars. Additionally Secant offers a Brembo® Gran Turismo brake upgrade with wheel & tire packages designed to accommodate the larger brakes.

Type I Supercharged Power Package

SECANT engineers have developed the GM Ecotec™ 2.0L supercharged powertrain for substantial gains in horsepower and torque over the stock powerplant while maintaining the refinement of the factory package. Power is increased to 280 HP @ 6600 RPM and torque to 241 lb-ft @ 4500 RPM. The Roots-blown four-cylinder reaches a maximum boost of 17 PSI.
The power package is designed for long term reliability and backed by a limited powertrain warranty - 12 months / unlimited miles, extendable to 24 months / unlimited miles. In addition, SECANT offers many powertrain options and accessories. For details contact SECANT Vehicle Engineering, or go to http://www.secantvehicles.com

Type II Supercharged Power Package

SECANT Vehicles is currently developing a Type II power package based on the Type I powertrain with upwards of 300 + HP. Type II includes the Type I package and adds: 7800 rpm redline; Ultra-high strength internals for increased RPM limit; upgraded intercooling and dry sump lubrication; software functionality includes octane switching – fuel modes for premium unleaded or 100-octane on-demand and includes software to revert to safe mode automatically. The Type II package will be available in mid 2008.

Brembo® Gran Turismo Brake Package

SECANT and Brembo® worked together to develop a big brake upgrade to provide additional stopping power to match the powertrain upgrades and expected high performance driving environment of these vehicles. The front-brake package offers the largest swept area available featuring 328 x 28 mm drilled and vented 2 piece cast iron floating rotors with billet aluminum hats for superior durability. The 4-piston calipers incorporate the Brembo® logo and are available in red, black, and silver finishes.

Wheel & Tire Packages

SECANT Vehicles has selected wheel & tire packages from Team Dynamics for Lotus vehicles that are designed to accommodate the Brembo® brake package. The wheel/tire packages offer an additional 30 mm of contact patch at each wheel and are optimized for exceptional balance both on road or track – especially when paired with the additional power and performance of the Type I Supercharged package. Wheel, tire, and Brembo® brake packages are available separately.

Pretty cool, the package only weighs in at 14 pounds more than the stock setup. Bad news is the cost $19,500 plus any options and shipping the car to them.

5 Speed VS 6 Speed

We opted for the GetRag F35 five-speed transmission over the Toyota 6 speed simply b/c it can handle the added power reliably and comes integrated with the Ecotec 2.0L supercharged engine.

Also, the shift linkage is much more positive and precise compared to the Toyota unit

That's what a well sorted FF 275 kit would cost with labor.

Benami Supercharger kit:
16,900.00 CHF = 15,904.37 USD
1.8L Toyota sourced engine with 263HP and 184 ld-ft torque at 4000RPM

SECANT Type I Supercharged 2.0L:
19500 USD
2.0L Ecotec Supercharged 280HP and 241 lb-ft torque at 4500RPM
12 month powertrain warranty included
This is not a kit. It is a well engineered powertrain (engine + transmission) package. Price includes installation

Just genuinely curious....

- Are you keeping the A/C with a dry sump?
- Are you upgrading cooling?
- ECU? Motec? Other?
- What's going on with the rear wheels/tires on the silver build car?

Looks very well sorted at first pass.

A: The Type II will have a dry sump and we are retaining the A/C

- Are you upgrading cooling?

A: Cooling has been upgraded

- ECU? Motec? Other?

A: We are using the GM Ecotec ECU but have modified it and adapted to work with the Lotus - so no engine lights come on and everything works

- What's going on with the rear wheels/tires on the silver build car?

A: Not sure what you mean..

Looks very well sorted at first pass

A: Thanks - we're serious about our company and products. We are not a bunch of kids in a garage

Thanks for the answers!

As to the comment regarding the rear tires/wheels: In the first and fourth photo in the Road & Track gallery it appears that the driver side rear tire is sticking out pretty far relative to the clam and would make contact under compression. In the third photo, the passenger side rear looks like it would clear though.

This looks good. The fact you are backing it with a warranty means you're for real.

Is this the same engine used in the current Europa?

I'll be saving my pennies for you guys. I don't think this can be beat.

i beleive its the same engine in the Chevy Cobalt? also used on the US version Atoms

if the type 1 is a full conversion and will run as good or better than "stock trim" it sounds like a pretty good price

then again if you are comming from an elise why not just trade in to an exige S 220hp + gotham 265 tune?

i guess the advantage would be in TQ rather than HP!

Ah, good eye. We were experimenting with 2 different offsets that day, with the photo shoot between test runs. The final specs we have since chosen are what you see on the passenger side. Interestingly, the larger offset you see on the drivers side did not rub the clam

It is indeed the same basic engine as found in the US Ariel but modified by SECANT for the Type I application. Not sure what the Atom's version is rated at but the Type I comes in at 280 HP

It certainly does run much better that stock. 280 HP is one thing but 241 lb-ft of torque at 4500 RPM does wonders in daily driving or on the track.

One year unlimited mile drivetrain warranty is included and you can opt for a 2 year extended warranty.

The Europa GT uses a Vauxhall/ Opel based 2.0L turbo which is simular to the engine used in the Solstice/ Sky and Opel GT
