Boy, you just look for any reason to crap on this car don't you

I am pretty sure the car in those pictures is an older test car, the one I was in had no wires, no "drivers side" labels, nor a big red emergency stop button

You're correct. These were the test cars that they do all their research on. The production cars don't have any loose wires or labels.

Oh My God...

How many times do I have to say it... I *want* this car to succeed. I love the idea of having a really fast, really cool electric car.

But there is a difference between being a fanboy of the car or brand and having blind faith as opposed to being realistic and pointing out issues. All of the blind faith and wishful thinking in the world is not going to make the tesla work and be a viable car.. but solid engineering and good leadership and happy employees will. The problem is that I see little things that make me worry and I point them out.. Things like engineering difficulties and principals getting replaced and unhappy workers blogging about how the "spirit" of the company is gone and its a bit worrisome considering they are supposed to be delivering cars in a couple of weeks. Im not "dumping" on the tesla at all... Im just being honest.

I love my lotus but when I talk to people about it Im honest about the car. I tell people that its impractical, its really small, it rattles, its very spartan and basic, bolts fall out sometimes, but it is an amazing car to drive and does not disappoint. Thats being honest...

We as the lotus community have a history of conveniently going blind when excitement gets the better of us. Back when the turbo kits were brand new and were being misrepresented by the builders as being far more reliable than they were, I asked some very hard questions about reliability and put those guys on the spot and even back then there were people claiming the same thing.. "Dont dump on these guys because they are building us turbo kits" Now looking back what do we see... a whole slew of blown up motors and a bunch of horrible experiences, some bordering on criminal, all because people did not want to hear the answers to those hard questions...

I want fast cars, I want the elise to have a turbo kit and I want the motor to last more than a thousand miles. I would like the elise to have a turbo and last 50,000 miles but if thats not going to happen then the turbo builder needs to be honest. Just the same, I want a car like the Tesla that goes 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and gets 260 miles on a charge but if its not going to do that then they need to be forthcoming.

I want the tesla to be reliable but when I see things like e-stop buttons on the test mules or we hear that the transmission is not going to work properly when the first cars are due any time its a bit hard to believe that they are really ready to ship these cars. Lots of little clues seem innocuous enough but when you put them together they paint the picture of a company thats in a bit over their heads. I wish them the best.. I really do... and I hope they prove me wrong and pull it off...

Not being a fanboy, just giving them the benefit of the doubt. For all you know that test car could be two years old

I think the car is beautiful and has a graceful appearance.

I really like the slim console with the HVAC controls. But I hope the plug in the center of the steering wheel is a stopgap until their own emblem is ready. It looks shockingly cheap.

So finish your car already and get to work on an electro-pneumatically driven valve actuation kit for the Elise. I'm good for a deposit.

I'll need a $350,000.00 deposit to get things rolling...

I'm a little light right now. But I'll email Flavio Briatore; maybe he has an old V 12 sitting in the back of the garage. Enough actuators for 3 Lotus. Hopfully Charlie would be willing to do the electronics in exchange for a set for his car...

Part of the reason an exige is as expensive as it is is because of the low volumes... if they were making 20k of them per year, they'd cost a heck of a lot less... so if you're buying a car that's a whole lot more rare than a lotus... asking for the same prices is cutting it at the knees. Think about it... for $60k you can buy 5500lbs of crap hummer H2... you're paying more money to get a lot less car... if you applied toyota's manufacturing prowess and volumes (which is what the hummer brand did with the H2) to the lotus, you'd have a car that would basically make a miata look expensive. You have to PAY for low volume manufacturing and hand building. You think a Veyron costs $950k to make so they can make $50k on a car?

Hey... I think I saw you a few months ago on the way home from Half Moon Bay. It was during the big waves that all the surfers flew out for. I was driving a Gallardo Nera. Where you been hiding? Miss your attention.

Yea, not sure why I've been AWOL from the forum for so long. Probably missed all sorts of XXX escapes by now.

We can grab drinks sometime. Perhaps you can expel some of the adventures out of me... although in my old age...
