HOUSE PLANS FOR A LOTUS? ANYONE?

Hey guys. . .here is my deal. .
I am a registered architect in Florida. (I can apply for reciprocity in any state except California-damn earthquakes!). I do mostly custom high-end homes that range from 6K to 15K square feet.
I mostly do drawings for a fee, as usual. Sometimes I trade for services, or shares in a development project, especially with developers. We sit and decide monetary value of what we are trading, and enter the contract that way. Works out pretty cool.
I was thinking of applying that concept here!
I desire either: A 2006 Elise with Sport, Touring, and hardtop, up to an Exige-S. If there is ANYONE out there who needs plans for their dream home (or building someone else's), maybe we could work something out to benefit us.
Here is an example of how it could happen:
  • Permit plans for a 6,000 square foot custom home goes for around $36,000 ($6 a foot), structural fees are separate.
  • 10,000 square feet would go for around $58,000. . .

Anyways, I would be willing to do up to 10,000 S.F. for any of the cars I mentioned. I think that is pretty fair up to a pre-owned Exige S. The value exchange is around there. . .

My services would include any revisions due to local building dept. comments.
Well, I've put out the message, and will look forward to any possible opportunities!

with thanks
Anthony

Heh. I looked at this and thought that someone was custom designing their house for a Lotus. I was psyched as I'm about to start that process. My wife thinks we are going to build a new house with an attached garage, I think we are going to build a new garage with attached house.

That said, I'm not your target; I don't want a 10,000 square foot house and I want to keep my Lotus.

Good luck.

Wow I realize we're in different markets, but $6 per foot for architectural services sounds outrageous to me!

Actually, where I work, we charge $8-$10 a foot! And people pay it. . . gladly. . . This pictured house had a $90K architectural fee! It's the reason we are still in business in this slow market. The high-end residential, and resort clientele is not affected. Anyways, I am releasing my request out there, and will be happy to receive any takers!

Do you perhaps have some more pictures of work you've done? We are thinking about building a house soon, and I'd rather go with a one-off design, rather than a large duplicated plan from a home building company.

That being said, I don't have an Exige for sale, but I've got a few general design ideas bouncing around in my head.

Cheers and good luck!

I know Elises are relatively cheap in the scheme of exotics, but some folks seem like they've never seen money... In my area of California he'd be considered low end of the price scale.

To the OP, you might get better luck by offering your services for regular payment and using that money toward your car...however I like your approach.

I'm just going by what we normally have received in the past . . .In south Florida. . . Actually our rates are the same for homes we have done out of state. . .

I am definitely open to the "regular" approach. But I figured there may be some people here who would rather pay with a Lotus vs. cash . . . Figured I give it a whirl! I really want to own this car!!!

Um you charge my salary for a drawing and I paid in cash. You should have no problem going to the nearest dealer and writing a check!

Actually. . .my check would probably bounce! And it's not just a "drawing". It's a set of construction documents necessary for a builder to build a house, plus you've got to satisfy local municipality codes, some ADA codes, inspection issues requiring revisions, etc. . .Then I have liability insurance, board membership, state licensure fees, continuing education units. . .I wish it was just a "drawing" my friend.
I only work with the firm that charges the higher rates for full construction documents, such as $90K for that 9,000 square foot house you see on this thread. . . .We charge around $9-10 a square foot.
Since I am licensed, I do a number of "moonlighting" jobs and charge a lower rate of $6-$7 a square foot using the same quality, and details I use at my full time office job. I haven't secured a commission like this for a while though. I've only dealt with additions, and re-models, due to the current economic glut. So no, I cannot just walk into a dealer, and write a check for a Lotus. BELIEVE me, I look forward to the day when I get to do that . With a family, a mortgage, and a fixed salary, my focus is closer to home. . . .and I am grateful for that
. . .The Lotus will come to me when it's ready.

10% of construction cost is industry standard, so no one should be surprised at your numbers. Frankly I'm surprised people are surprised...LOL.

You'll get one eventually!

Thanks for your support! 10% would actually yield higher architectural fees. So you are correct. Our rates are more reasonable than if we used the "percentage of construction" method. Our houses get built for about $250-$300 a square foot (nice finishes, appliances, impact resistant windows, etc.) If you did the math, you would see this.
I would actually consider an 06-07 Elise if it had the Sport, Touring, and hardtop options. . .
