wanting to buy, out of state, bank & title
Hi, don't know which forum to post all this, maybe it should be split into multiple posts on different forums, oh well.
I'm in Hawaii. I'm looking for 05/06 Elise Silver or Titanium with hardtop. I originally wanted polar blue, but that ain't gonna happen, and I can be very very happy with silver or titanium. 2005 Lotus Elise, Storm Titanium, Red Leather, Hardtop + Xtras! looks sweet. I've pm'd back and forth with seller and so far things seem legit. An ECU dump is coming, and I need to run carfax after that, and if all looks good on the electronic paper side, I will fly to SD next week. There is also an Arctic Silver on the SD craigslist that I hope to look at if I can get a hold of the seller. There's also a couple in the bay area - my past stomping grounds. I will travel north for if either of the two I'm interested in in SD don't work out. I've never bought a used car or a car from an individual. I have cash (well I'll wire the $$$ - I don't walk around with $20 in my wallet). Elude's title is in bank's hand. So, how does that work? Yes, I've done the search. From what I read, I am expected to pay off the seller's loan and then things magically fall into place??? I read about the escrow - but need to learn more about that. If all goes well in SD or Norcal, I will drive the car to pasha and let them sail it over to the big island. Which means, I need to get it insured before I fly home. Is that as simple as calling my insurance company and adding my car over the phone? (Current policy is for wife's car.) What I visualize as a plan is: 1) get ecu dump and carfax, 2) fly in, 3) inspect car, 4) test drive, 5) make offer, 6) setup escrow (????), 7) wire money into escrow, 7) add to insurance policy, 8) drive to pasha, 9) fly home, 10) get car & title in two weeks or so. Can all that happen in a day or two? Is anyone running carfax's? The VIN for elude's car is SCCPC11165HL31580. Is anyone in SD interested in being my remote eyeballs and giving the car a visual for me? Oh also - there was a Hawaii elise owner who pm'd me a while back, and I cant recall your car color. If you're interested in selling and the car fits my specs (silver or titanium (not gg), hardtop, touring) and price, pm me. If I broke all the forum posting rules, sorry. (Also sorry for any spelling and/or grammatical issues as I reread and rewrite my posts alot and usually muck things up in that process.) |

I think it makes sense to post it here and we are really not that strict anyway. Best wishes on your goals.
My only comments are: Call the insurance company first and explain the situation. I know with mine, any car I buy is covered for 30 days without notification from me. I have 30 days to tell them. I don't mind looking at the car if it can be worked out. I am mostly in central San Diego...but sometimes I venture out.

do not mean to hijack this thread but...
I understand that my insurance company will insure the car once I give them the VIN but I can't register it till I get back to my state with the title. How then do I drive it across multiple states without any plates ? I am sure the seller would want to keep his plates. |
