I 2nd that. I really dislike those cars, basically just a chassis and an engine....what is the pt? At least the Lotus makes the effort of actually being an 'all-weather' car with a roof.

The point is that these are stripped down to the very essence of what makes a car a car, they are meant for driving - not for posing at the mall, so looks are secondary. Although I really like the look, 500 hp in one of these is an exercise in the ridiculous.

Gulp, I thought there were only Lotus enthusiasts on this forum.

Thanks for being a good sport about it. I guess it's not really my cup of tea. I mean, it's relatively easy to strip everything out, place in a powerful engine and achieve performance. I'm more a fan of the Lotus way of doing things (save for the 211) of retaining *some* aspect/resemblance of a motorcar and not a buggy/go-kart.

I don't think the current Lotuses are much different except for the bigger cabin, crappy radio and A/C, and ABS.

I got a ride in a Westfield at Sears Point a few years ago. It had a small block Chevy motor, and its owner claimed it was producing 500 HP. It was completely awesome, and the acceleration was on a par with my ZX-11 Ninja. But it didn't feel overpowered at all, it just made the straights really short.

I see the web site is still up. Welcome to chevroletwestfield.co.uk

Hartley says he's getting 500 HP from his Hayabusa V8s now.
His test bed is a Caterham...

Yes. I prefer cars w/ roofs.

It is a Lotus and it is the Lotus way of doing things. The car was originally designed by the founder of Lotus.
I also have another Lotus

So you don't understand motorcycles either then?

If you prefer to be cocooned in some cushy car, that is fine, but you are missing out on half the experience. A Seven makes a Lotus Elise feel like a school bus.

Personally, I don't like the styling on this Levante version (which is built/re-engineered by RS Performance, not Caterham) and think it is a bit ridiculous to have that much power in the car when 250-275hp will see off most supercars around a track

Here is a short first drive review of the car
