The Talbot came first, but not with any Lotus DNA. Talbot/Chrysler Horizon was first produced for Europe in 1977, the US version Plymouth Horizon came in 1978. The Talbot Sunbeam Lotus appeared at the Geneva Auto show in 1979.

The cars may look the same but don't really share much mechanically, apparently even the body panels are not interchangeable

My neighbour used to have a Sunbeam Lotus - it went like stink and how Lotus managed to fit that engine in the car was amazing.

The road car was based on the rally car of the same period.
