Log28 Track Day at Putnam Park

Anyone have the details?

How about:
  • Which direction will we run?
  • What configuration will we use?
  • Any video available of the above so we can study the track layout before we get there?

Thanks,

Rich

Putnam

Always runs clockwise.

Go to youtube and type in Diasio. There is some onboard video of Chris Diasio in a D962R. He owns the track and knows it like the back of his hand.

You will prbably be on the standard config.

I modified the track map from Putnam's website to show the configuration we will be running.

I had a GREAT time at the track day. Putnam is a very fast and challenging course. I'd go back anytime to improve my line and get my times down to Rich's.

Whoever was driving that Red Elise should never go back to a track Again.

He was oblivious to anything going on around him. I was flashing lights honking the horn. He was getting blue flagged at every corner for the first few laps. Then finally got black flagged for two laps. Then during one of his black flagged laps he spun out on turn 7! Dangerous to everyone out there.

I almost had a head on collision with the red elise when it spun out on turn 7. Did anybody see our cars less than a foot apart from tragedy? As I look back, I just laugh and realize how lucky I was that day.

I think I know what your lucky pre-track day ritual will be...your secret is safe

Just watching that raises my blood pressure. I would have exited the track and told them to give me some room. Was that the novice group?

It's the intermediate group.

Looks like the first time at Putnam for most. Turn 7 can be tricky, there is a tar strip right at the perfect turn in point for our cars. I got lucky the first time at Putnam with a instructor who did 37 events there.

There was a driver in the advanced group that was very, very slow on the point bys AND was also driving about 2/3rds the pace of everyone else. Not only was he slow, but he also tried pointing people by on the wrong side (the rules of the day were always point folks by on the left) and was black flagged during the first session. The organizer asked to have him moved back to intermediate (should have been in beginner), but it didn't happen.

That said the track was a lot of fun. 6 sessions (plus two riding shotgun with a new to the track dude in green) ended up being a lot of track time. I was REALLY tired by the end of the day. Videos coming soon...

It's all about the "foot" works. Yeah, CHILL is full of pranksters. There was one time when we put "DIVA" plates on Chris's car while we ran the Viper Days. We also changed Aaron's Autocross stickers to "ASS 1" instead of "ASP 1." From time to time a Lotus would fashion a "NOS" sticker in Indy. Unfortunately, I was the victim when we had our mini-wrench day.
