LOG27 track day pics

Some of my favorite pictures from the LOG27 track day at Aspen Racing and Sports Car Club are attached. I also have pictures from the autocross and from my road trip which I will post later.

The full set is here .

Enjoy. I'm pretty proud of them. I had a good day. (A good day driving, too...)

Did they make him pay for the gate and post he landed on?

I talked to the kid at the gate and he was very chilled about the whole thing...

I'd remove those photos unless you have permission from the driver to post them.

Think about how you would feel if something like that happened to you and the photos found online changed things for you.

I wondered if anyone would feel this way. I was conflicted about putting them up in the first place, so I probably shouldn't have. I've removed them.

Yes, unfortunately. No one was hurt, though.

I feel EXTREMELY bad for anyone being responsible and running their car in the right environment (READ: closed course) and bins it. But that said, it happens all the time. Unfortunate, but it happens. Something is posted on the net and you decide that everyone should be weary about posting it? This gentleman (assumingly) knowing the risk of driving on track took them and it turned out wrong for him. I am sure he knows that at a high profile event such as this one there is going to be lots of photography. Or did he just get her from Mars?

If you don't want pictures circulated, take them down all together. Don't give me sh*t about posting something that was already link to this site.

Not giving you sh*t, just suggesting that if it was your car then you might not want the pictures posted.

As you can see, pwe has now removed the photos from his site.

How would you feel if you were about to make collect an insurance claim when all of a sudden the insurance adjuster calls and says "We are not going to pay your claim as pictures on the web differ from your claim report."

Counterpoint would be, what you're describing is known as insurance fraud - not telling the truth about what happened. Honesty and integrity should be expected of people, there should be nothing to hide or cover up. I have no idea what story the car's driver will be telling in this case so am not judging that, just in general this concern about not posting pictures of cars wrecked on the track only encourages and supports deception and dishonesty.

I'm not advocating insurance fraud.

I'm just saying that it can be VERY difficult to remember everything exactly the way it happened.

I watched someone wreck a car at the track. He had a CLASSIC understeer moment. He came into a corner too fast, turned the wheel, got some understeer, turned the wheel some more because the car wouldn't turn and ran into a tire wall.

When asked what happened he replied: "I came into the corner a little fast, got some oversteer and lost control of the car."

Would that difference in description and reality change an insurance adjuster's mind about paying a claim? Probably not, but what if it did?

It's very easy for a driver's perception of an event (especially a traumatic event like this) to differ from reality.

I think the guy is probably more worried about sponsors seeing it than insurance peeps.

Matt is correct . . . but that is (in this case) none of my concern (it doesn't help our rates if it were to happen). They guy is out on track at a public event and and it went sideways? So I, you, we are suppose to "adjust" actions to midigate his cost, damages, trouble, embarrasement? If it was me I'd be the first to tell you that it SUCKS bin your car at an event, but I am certain not going to try to or EXPECT people to have media blackout on my behalf.

This was only the second time I've had the camera at a track day and it's the first crash I've caught. Whether or not it is acceptable to post such pictures on the Internet, I haven't made my personal decison if I wish to host them on my site. So, that is why I took them down.

There were DOZENS of people at the event with cameras owing to Emmo's run in the 72d, I just happened to be close to the crash and have a long lens. I'd be very surprised if, of all those photographers, no one posts images of the wrecked car or video of the crash to the Internet. With the pervasive still and video cameras built into everything these days, it is not reasonable for me to expect not to show up on the Internet if I do something spectacular in public.
